# Runway Rewind: Studio 189's Fall/Winter 2020 Show Was Gloriously Bright

Studio 189 is a brand started by Rosario Dawson and Abrima Erwiah back in 2013\. Based in Ghana, the company calls itself a social enterprise: As best I can tell, this means it employs a collective of African artisans to craft its collection, with an aim toward empowering and employing women while also preserving traditional skills and working sustainably. Its website [goes into detail about each of the crafts](https://studiooneeightynine.com/pages/craftsmanship?ref=go-fug-yourself.ghost.io) \-- hand-batiking, engraving, beadwork, kente and basket weaving, et al -- that play a role, and where on the continent they're each done. There's also a page for the dyes and for the materials used, and yep, [they also make masks](https://studiooneeightynine.com/products/blue-reiko-hand-batik-cotton-face-mask-1?%5Fpos=9&%5Fsid=10b330d88&%5Fss=r&ref=go-fug-yourself.ghost.io) (I had to search for "mask" on the site to find them; that's just one). Vogue cheered the colors and patterns in the Fall 2020 show, along with the live music that had Dawson coming out to dance in the aisles. I wish I'd known more about them before now.
