This dress is kind of fussy and looks like a child might've designed it with puffy glitter glue and stickers, and yet I really really like it on her. Some of that is the dress; I don't know what Valentino threaded it with, but I could see it on a range of other people too (like Shailene Woodley, for instance, or even Margot Robbie, with their hair up and a wry grin on their faces). But Ruth is the coolest choice. She has innate edge, so when she show up in something this sweet, the balance doesn't give you a cavity. She looks ethereal and funky rather than prim.

This is hilariously good on her. It's ABSURD -- she looks like the widow of a hammock mogul -- and yet she is dominating it in exactly the way anyone would hope. I might LOVE her for how well she's working this.

This is just good styling. I would not have thught of that sweater with a leather skirt, but the accessories tie the whole thing up in a groovy bow. This outfit narratively fits in with the Valentino from the beginning of the slideshow, too, a bit. The Grief Hammock kind of came out of nowhere. But I can't pin her down based on any of her other outfits from this season, either, and I like that about her. Some people really need a firm styling hand and an aesthetic, but Ruth Negga -- even in her missteps -- makes randomness work for her.

I just love this photo. We rarely get The Mischievous Grin of Ruth Negga and I wanted to celebrate it.
