Rooney Mara, Kate Mara

When Brad -- who, by the way, was not great, and could NOT stop making it clear that he was buddies with half these people, but still bested Ross Mathews by A THOUSAND PERCENT -- asked how to pronounce their last name, they didn't have an answer. He basically wanted to know if it rhymes with Sara, or... hmm... carbonara, I guess. They were like, "Whichever." How is that possible? How is it conceivable that YOU, YOURSELF, do not have one way to pronounce your OWN NAME? Rooney, I think, eventually said their family tends to go with "Mara" as in "Sara," but both girls were SO strange about it. I mean, to me, that's like asking Saoirse Ronan if her first name is pronounced "SIR-sha" or "Sayoeeerse," and her saying, "Eh, whichever." NO. NO WHICHEVER. There is a way. Right? It's not the same thing as not caring whether someone uses your nickname. I don't know why this got my goat so badly, but it did. So obviously that set a tone for my mood when I saw their dresses.

I guess it was a coincidence that they both picked Valentino and are therefore sisters in sideboob as well as in genetics. Rooney's is okay, but relatively lifeless. She needed some jewelry. Also, I'm pretty sure the flash in the first photo was giving me a solid view of her nipple. So while this isn't UPSETTING, or anything, it's just... I don't know why it's either CRAZY or DRAB with this one. Imagine this in navy, with some accessories, and a deeper lip. Much more memorable, right? But I think she doesn't want to be memorable. She either wants to be forgotten entirely, or totally overshadowed by the clothes so that you are looking at them and not her. That is my armchair analysis.

This, though... I am NOT seeing through her top, and yet somehow I still am. Also why is she wearing suspenders around her waist? None of this seems wise. At all.

SAG Awards Fug Carpet: Kate and Rooney Mara in Valentino
These two gave THE most excruciating interview on the E! pre-show, some of which might be because Brad Goreski is not adept at this and thus does not have enough experience milking a stone. But the sisters had weirdly little chemistry together. It was like they'd been CAST as sisters, then instructed to walk around pretending they'd really bonded on set. [Photos: Fame/Flynet]
