She plays Number One on the ship, and she looks fabulous. Apparently a good number of these characters came from the original pilot for Star Trek, "The Cage," which was chucked and totally retooled; her character, Una, was reshaped and combined with others and turned into Spock.

Andon and Rebecca, and some others, have appeared on Star Trek: Discovery, before launching into this one (set ten years prior to the Kirk years). I love that this silver fox is the same man who sat down at a piano and played (or fake-played, but you feel me) "I'm Not a Girl, Not Yet a Woman" with Britters. MOVIE HISTORY. He looks very nice. I suspect that tie is too boring.

Babs plays the doctor, M'Benga. I think it's very possible that the pants aren't the right finisher for this look, but overall it's still successful and he has much to teach his castmates about the color wheel.

He apparently IS playing Spock, as he has done on Star Trek: Discovery (this is basically a spin-off, or else I suppose you could say they all soft-launched there before going out on their own). He looks nice and also dull (of outfit; I'm sure he is a lively human being). Also of note: For season two, they're bringing in Paul Wesley of the Vampire Diaries to be Kirk.

Bruce is blind in one eye and has limited vision in the other; he's playing someone who is of "an albino subspecies of Andorians," in case that means anything to you. I love me some Next Generation and Deep Space Nine, but I don't remember a lot of the details. Bruce's jacket is snappy.

Celia, who is playing a young Uhura, is so interesting: She was nominated for a Tony for Jagged Little Pill - and made history as one of the youngest nominees in her category (at age 20), and also for being half of the first mother-daughter duo to be on Broadway at the same time. Her mother, LaChanze, was in A Christmas Carol at the time, and herself won a Tony in 2006 for The Color Purple. Oh, and Celia quit Jagged Little Pill because she felt that the show was transphobic and abusive toward its non-binary cast members, so she is awesome AND talented.

Jess will be Nurse Christine Chapel, and I feel like if this were Celia Gooding's wedding, this would be the coordinating bridesmaid dress.

Melissa is the navigator. She has Punk Rachel Maddow vibes here that I REALLY appreciate.

Christina, who looks awesome in this, plays La'an Noonien-Singh, a relative of the Ricardo Montalban villain. Ye Olde Ricardo Montalban would make a great yacht name. Or, if I had a cat, that would be its full name. You are welcome to steal that, as I will never have a cat.
