Let's begin with the EP and star herself, Reese Witherspoon. I love everything about this in theory -- it's a great color, the shoes are fab, and she looks enviably cute and also professional and stellar. If only the dress didn't look a size too small in some places. It's painfully close.

Nicole Kidman in Bottega Veneta

Pretty enough, but a bit too drained of color. This reminds me of what the previous owners of my house had painted nearly all the bedrooms. I think they thought it was a beige neutral and then it went on pinkish. Which can be fine on a person, but I like Nicole with just a bit more... well, a bit more, period.

Zoe Kravitz in Alexander Wang

THis had copy on it originally and it got eaten. Sometimes that happens when we have to move slides around after we've written them. Anyway, all I had said was: I think the nomochrome look works for this kind of event because she's sitting down and all she needs to be is a ball of color. It's smart to dress for what you'll be doing. Which leads into...

Shailene Woodley in Bottega Veneta

Case in point: Shailene, I think, looks fabulous as well, with the lone exception that picking this outfit means that when she's in her chair it's going to look like we're staring only at her bra.

Right? I wouldve been cool with an actual turtleneck, or a sleeveless one even, which wasn't see-through. The outfit works just fine on her standing up even WITH the transparency, amazingly, but in this context it turns a little distracting.

HOWEVER: This panel sounds like it was full of good quotes. We heard Reese's Glamour Women of the Year speech last year, and it was similarly excellent; she had a lot of well-expressed thoughts about the lack of female-driven projects. I admire the consistency of her message. You can tell by the projects she's producing that Reese means what she says, and isn't just paying lip service to a buzzy conversation. Hollywood is lucky to have her and people like her who are cool with women being layered and messy and interesting and above all indispensible.

The "Big Little Lies" TCA Panel
I am looking forward to this -- I really enjoyed the book -- but MAN is HBO going all-in on this thing. (It premieres Feb. 19, so we all have some time to sit with the hype.)(Although why they're premiering this the Sunday BEFORE the Oscars -- and thus either going against it or having to go off for a week -- and not the week AFTER is beyond me.)
