Second: Look at how YOUNG Harvey Fierstein is. (He's only 29 here.) ## Angela Lansbury ![](https://static.gofugyourself.com/uploads/2021/08/GettyImages-1009613648-1629411983.jpg) NEW YORK CITY - AUGUST 21: Angela Lansbury attends "La Cage Aux Folles" Performance on August 21, 1983 at the Palace Theater in New York City. (Photo by Ron Galella/Ron Galella Collection via Getty Images) This woman looks like a goddess in a SILK BAG! (Also, wow, the 1983 TKTS booth back there is EXTREME.) (ALSO, is there anything more 1983 than a giant billboard for a typewriter?) ## Lorna Luft and Tony Chase ![](https://static.gofugyourself.com/uploads/2021/08/GettyImages-105581503-1629411882.jpg) Lorna Luft and Tony Chase during "La Cage Aux Folles" Broadway Opening Party - August 21, 1983 at Pan Am Building in New York City, New York, United States. (Photo by Ron Galella/Ron Galella Collection via Getty Images) LORNA LUFT WHAT ARE YOU WEARING? (They, like a lot of people in these pics, are actually heading into the afterparty, which was in the [Pam-Am Building, which is now the MetLife Building](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MetLife%5FBuilding?ref=go-fug-yourself.ghost.io).) They both look like they're on their way to a Black Tie Pirate Ball. ## Cher ![](https://static.gofugyourself.com/uploads/2021/08/GettyImages-105731108-1629411893.jpg) Cher during "La Cage Aux Folles" Broadway Performance - September 16, 1983 at Palace Theater in New York City, New York, United States. (Photo by Ron Galella/Ron Galella Collection via Getty Images) This was actually like two weeks after the show opened, but I'm not going to deny you CHER. She looks so gorgeous! She also appears to be holding a photo of herself, which is a journey I enjoy for her. ## Allan Carr and Marlo Thomas ![](https://static.gofugyourself.com/uploads/2021/08/GettyImages-105904532-1629411904.jpg) Allan Carr and Marlo Thomas during "La Cage Aux Folles" Broadway Opening Party - August 21, 1983 at Pan Am Building in New York City, New York, United States. (Photo by Ron Galella/Ron Galella Collection via Getty Images) OMG you guys get a room. (Not really, she's already married to Phil Donahue here, and he's her manager, so I'm sure this was just friendly enthusiasm.) ## Marlo Thomas ![](https://static.gofugyourself.com/uploads/2021/08/GettyImages-105904540-1629411915.jpg) Allan Carr and Marlo Thomas during "La Cage Aux Folles" Broadway Opening Party - August 21, 1983 at Pan Am Building in New York City, New York, United States. (Photo by Ron Galella/Ron Galella Collection via Getty Images) Marlo's outfit might be great. ## Ann-Margret and Roger Smith ![](https://static.gofugyourself.com/uploads/2021/08/GettyImages-106018204-1629411926.jpg) Ann-Margret and Roger Smith during "La Cage Aux Folles" Broadway Opening - August 21, 1983 at Palace Theater in New York, New York, United States. (Photo by Ron Galella/Ron Galella Collection via Getty Images) I am REELING from the fact that I am currently older than A-M is here, but she IS dishy here. She and her husband Roger both have deliciously voluminous hair. ## Diahann Carroll ![](https://static.gofugyourself.com/uploads/2021/08/GettyImages-106731443-1629411938.jpg) Diahann Carrol during "La Cage Aux Folles" at Palace Theater in New York City, New York, United States. (Photo by Ron Galella/Ron Galella Collection via Getty Images) Can't you just imagine a Young Actress of Today wearing this? ## Mary Tyler Moore and (then) boyfriend Dr. Robert Levine ![](https://static.gofugyourself.com/uploads/2021/08/GettyImages-123934583-1629411949.jpg) NEW YORK CITY - AUGUST 21: Actress Mary Tyler Moore and boyfriend Dr. Robert Levine attend the "La Cage aux Folles" Opening Night Performance on August 21, 1983 at the Palace Theatre in New York City. (Photo by Ron Galella/Ron Galella Collection via Getty Images) Or this, although I am SLIGHTLY worried that Mare is wearing a matchy trousers outfit here. (She and Dr. Levine got married this very year. He sort of looks like Ross Geller here? She was 15 years older than him and they were married until her death. Good for them!) ## Garson Kanin and Ruth Gordon ![](https://static.gofugyourself.com/uploads/2021/08/GettyImages-459384087-1629411961.jpg) NEW YORK CITY - AUGUST 21: Garson Kanin and Ruth Gordon attend the performance of "La Cage Aux Folles" on August 21, 1983 at the Palace Theater in New York City. (Photo by Ron Galella, Ltd./Ron Galella Collection via Getty Images) [DO NOT allow this woman to serve you a smoothie](https://www.nosetouchpress.com/wicked-witch-minnie-castevet/?ref=go-fug-yourself.ghost.io), I don't care HOW glam she looks! (I did not know they were married; he wrote and directed about a million things [but also the book that became the TV show Smash?!?!?!?!!?!?](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Garson%5FKanin?ref=go-fug-yourself.ghost.io) Wow. That is a fun fact.) ## Restaurateur Jilly Rizzo and Date ![](https://static.gofugyourself.com/uploads/2021/08/GettyImages-492567389-1629411972.jpg) NEW YORK CITY - AUGUST 21: Restaurateur Jilly Rizzo and date attend the "La Cage aux Folles" Broadway Musical Opening Night on August 21, 1983 at the Palace Theatre in New York City. (Photo by Ron Galella/Ron Galella Collection via Getty Images) I really thought you would just want to see how tan this woman is. I promise you she loved *Dynasty*, whoever she was, and I hope she's thriving today. ([Rizzo's obit is a real read and a bit traumatizing](https://www.nytimes.com/1992/05/07/us/jilly-rizzo-close-aide-to-sinatra-killed-at-75.html?ref=go-fug-yourself.ghost.io) and also brings up a lot more questions than answers.) [The Opening Night of "La Cage Aux Folles" Was A RIDE!On this day-ish in 1983.![](https://storage.ghost.io/c/bf/b9/bfb99790-924d-4e41-a7e6-5e3c6e04fe57/content/images/static-gofugyourself-com/uploads/2021/08/gettyimages-105581121-1629411867-scaled.jpg)](https://go-fug-yourself.ghost.io/the-opening-night-of-la-cage-aux-folles-was-a-ride-08-2021/)
