So! These two had a VERY tumultuous relationship but obviously things are percolating along here; if I'm reading the tea leaves (Wikipedia) correctly, they had fairly recently gotten back together here. They were married January-November 1976, then both dated/married a variety of other people, then reunited in early 1988; this premiere was in December of that year. (Don's Wiki's "personal life" section is A WILD RIDE that includes a LOT of inappropriately youthful paramours and also maybe money laundering???? Also wild is this almost-contemporaneous piece in People.) This hair on Melanie is a choice that I remember a lot of Moms at my junior high also making.
Sigourney Weaver

As you can see, they gave out branded WORKING GIRL scarves at this piece and A LOT of celebrities wore it all night. Whatever PR person dreamed that up is probably a major bigwig today; this is early for that kind of swag to be photographed so widely. Anyway, she looks great; I love her.
Harrison Ford

Harrison Ford, who is a DREAMBOAT in this film, appeared at the premiere also looking like a dreamboat in giant Phil Donahue glasses.
George Clooney and Kelly Preston

Look at these two babies! Thought one: This date was clearly sponsored by Levis. Thought two: Is Kelly holding a beer? Thought three: I did not know they dated but the internet tells me they were crazy about each other and that George gave her a pot-bellied pig, which I know is one of the many ways he shows his love. Thought four: Was Clooney, at some point, wearing that hat?!?!?!
Tom Hanks and David Faustino

Looking at David Faustino's CV gives me NO CLUE as to why these two are posing together and I think perhaps Tom Hanks just loved Married...With a Children, a show I was not personally permitted to watch.
John Cusack

John Cusack looks like he just came straight from the set of Say Anything..., although it had already come out in April. I swear to god he wears this coat in that movie.
Heather Graham

LOOK AT THIS BABY. She had done hardly anything at this point -- Drugstore Cowboy was maybe filming around this time? -- but she had to have been riding high from being the Hot Girl Lead in License to Drive, a movie I definitely saw and do not remember, which had come out this summer.

I'm always happy to see Patrick Swayze, a forever babe.
Steve Martin and Victoria Tennant

Steve and Victoria look like they had a big fight on the way over. (NOT still married; he's married to a woman who wrote for The New Yorker now, and she's married to a lawyer at Warner Brothers. That's so sensible on both their parts.)
Debra Winger and Douglas Wick

I know this happened in 1988, but now I'm 'shipping them. (They've both been married to several women and are currently married to women but whatever.) Brian Robbins will always be the kid from Head of the Class to me but he's, you know, a major big-deal exec now so good for you, Brian. (I do need to note that his Wiki photo is hilarious for someone with such a fancy job, PLEASE DO NOT CHANGE IT.)
Diane Sawyer and Mike Nichols

He, of course, directed this film. Diane Sawyer has looked exactly the same -- GREAT -- for my entire life.

Speaking of someone who has always looked great.

I do not know why Rodney Dangerfield is the only person at this event who got the respect of a black and white photo.

They, on the other hand, per Jane's (very interesting) Wiki, are gonna officially break up about a week from this photo. They look fairly congenial considering.
Tippi Hedren

Noted Kook Tippi Hedren -- for real -- DOES look very cozy in that sweater.

Katherine Helmond is not going to ruin her outfit with some promotional scarf! She already HAS a glorious scarf! (He was a sculptor and they were married.)
David Hockney

And I hope David Christian cornered FREAKING DAVID HOCKNEY!!!!! at this party and talked his ear off about art. (Hockney has lived in LA on and off for a very long time but I admit I am surprised to see him pop up at this.) He looks jaunty as usual.
John Lithgow

John Lithgow has looked like this forever and will continue to look like this until the earth crashes into the sun.

This outing was sponsored by WINDBREAKERS, as a concept. This is also where I remind you that he played Mallory's bohunk boyfriend Nick on Family Ties, a role in which he was ABSOLUTE PERFECTION and the entire reason that I cannot read the name "Mallory" without hearing him say "Mall-oh-REE." Sorry to all the Mallorys in my life. Fun fact: Per Wiki, he is now "a partner in Excelsior Capital Partners, a boutique investment firm that focuses on the renewable and sustainable energy sector." (They are not married anymore but didn't divorce until 2012 -- that's a good run!)
Christian Slater

This young, scarf-loving hottie was about to hit it big -- Heathers was the following year. Get ready to see the inside of my locker, Christian Slater!
