Mila's McQueen handily won best dressed in our poll (Tina Fey came in second; you'll see her in a moment). I keep carping on about how patterns were less common and if they weren't OVERALL, they definitely were at this ceremony, and that probably swayed it. Also, this was a big moment for Mila, who wasn't a common red carpet presence, and that's always seductive in a poll.

Kate narrowly beat out Christina Hendricks and Jenna Fischer -- again, you'll see them in a moment. I'm surprised it was that close. This is ghastly. It is the WORST use of shoelaces.

This is gorgeous. She looks great. I kinda miss The Swank. She was great in her two Oscar-winning movies, and so terrible in several others (P.S. I Love You was just... not the right fit, AT ALL), but it feels like she OUGHT to be able to find her niche somewhere. It's peak TV time, after all.

In other photos, you could see the definition of her navel REALLY clearly, so this was maybe the wrong size. Her head looks AMAZING, though.

This feels a bit like a weak-sauce knockoff of other, more famous dresses.

This is VERY close for me. The top seems baggy and I don't know why it has bangs right over her knee, but the bones are pretty.

I guess knee bangs were a thing in 2011.

This is great on her, and her jewelry is fab.

I feel like several settees in Buckingham Palace are upholstered with this exact material.

She also scored well in the best-dressed poll.

She... did not. Oh, Christine. It's okay. We've ALL had a horrible makeup powder accident where we tried to brush off the trail of makeup and then accidentally stained the dress and had to cut it and twist it around and then re-glue it to itself in a manner that hides the stains and looks at least 60 percent intentional! Right? ALL OF US.

This was the second-place for best-dressed, and I wonder if some of the reason we liked it is context -- I can't remember how well Tina had been styled around this, but it's very possible we weren't used to it being this dishy.

Ah, Hot In Cleveland! I forgot! They all do indeed look hot, though Val might need a hoik.

Another pattern, and I love it! The belt might be superfluous? I guess we don't know what's under there. It could be anything.

I am surprised this was voted down so heavily. It's not GREAT -- the complaint was that it felt frumpy and tired -- but it's nowhere near as bad as Kate's.

"Just take a bunch of fabric and SCRUNCH IT UP ON YOUR BODY, and POOF, a dress is born."

That neckline makes it look like the dress is an adjustable boob sling.

This is one of my favorites.

This seems like lazy tailoring.

I did not even have to look up that this was Marchesa (though I did later, to confirm it). It's completely their hallmarks. I did not recall that Kim went to the SAGs. She looks... fine? It's off by a few degrees here and there, but honestly, compare it with everything that came in the ensuing decade.

Gorgeous.

Less inspiring.

I LOVE this. It didn't get much traction at the time. Would it be even better if we snipped off the netting and it were entirely off the shoulders?

This is pretty good! Someone on Twitter was asking for the real true oral history people want next, and a person responded with a photo of her and Margulies in a shot together yet clearly not actually on set together, and: YES.

It's not world-shaking, but it fits perfectly and she looks like a million bucks, so it'll do.

"Dammit, I bought this lace breast strip and I've never used it, but I don't have the heart to throw it away until I've at least TRIED. What to do, what to do..."

This was the poll's other worst-dressed runner-up, and I think it's because of her makeup, and how bathrobe-adjacent it is. I wouldn't put it in the bottom today, and again, Kate Mara's is SO MUCH WORSE. Sometimes I guess you have to reach for other contenders.

Conversely, we liked this at the time, and now I think it's just way too much.

The evils of the putty slingback, Exhibit A.

This is fantastic. Somebody please lend Buttercup a bracelet.

Catherine, I promise, it's going to get REALLY FUN in several years.

He always knows how to stick the landing.

Computer, fire up the Deanna Troi/Picard fan-fictions.

He is sincerely dressed like the Old Hollywood director who is an arrogant prick and has a rumored prowess with the ladies that is entirely of his own invention.

This is startlingly not weird.

SO YOUNG.

SO FOXY.

Hard to argue with this. I think she didn't do better in the polls because everyone was frankly, a little tired of her by this point. (She was in the throes of posing on the red carpet with every emotion in her toolkit.)

Miss Havisham will see you now.

I cannot imagine how fatiguing it was to carry around another human through this entire dog-and-pony show, multiple times, all while giving acceptance speeches. Sure, there are worse problems, but I applaud her for getting through all of it without falling asleep.
