I'm sure someone posted this photo with the trees cropped out, but honestly, I like seeing the truth of the setup. It's nice to be reminded that this is work, and a lot of people are doing it. Anyway: Regina looks great in this. It's a very fussy ensemble with a lot of different bits flapping around everywhere, and I think a person of lesser magnetism would get lost in it.

Marsai Martin in Christian Siriano

Marsai is 16, and she's already essentially a mogul -- in addition to Blackish, she's done some producing, making her as of December the youngest Hollywood producer in the world. (She talked to the Hollywood Reporter about how she thinks there's too many stories that focus on Black pain, and she wants to use her shingle to tell different ones.) This dress feels perfect for her stage in life. She's growing up and maturing and has a freaking OFFICE, but she's also embracing whimsy. It's mature but it's not sexy. Thumbs up.

Cynthia Erivo in Lanvin, and Andra Day in Dundas

Andra looks cute in this. But as much as I liked Marsai's outfit is how much Cynthia's makes me scream. The full view (second slide) doesn't really improve it any, although on Instagram you can at least see more clearly the workmanship in the mesh part? But it's heavy and shapeless and looks like she's wearing a couture barrel -- and looks TERRIBLE on TV. She deserves so much better. It's like she's dressed as the experience of a person leaping out of a birthday cake.

I am SO delighted to see someone wearing my favorite, Andrew Gn, and she looks super in it. But what I love the most is the various poses she struck for us. There's this, which is very dramatic...

SLJ did a piece from outside Graves Hall at Morehouse College, a dormitory that once housed -- among others -- Martin Luther King, Jr., and Spike Lee. I don't know if Samuel L. lived in there, but he did go to Morehouse. I love this shot for its tribute to HBCs to its affirmation of Samuel's commitment to funky glasses, to the fact that it looks like he's starting his own university.
