Look at this CHILD, at the Monte Carlo TV Festival! Never you mind that this child is approximately 28 years of age in this photo. I think we can all agree that he looks like a veritable fetus. (I believe he was promoting a British TV movie he made in which he played Steven Hawking. I'm sure he and Eddie Redmayne discussed this at some point.)

This is AMAZING. You are a CHILD, sir!

It's a relief to know that Ioan is AGELESS.

This looks like an outtake from A Very British Edition of International Male.

BENEDICT. What is happening on your head?!?! WHY DID YOU DO THIS TO YOURSELF?

This is jaunty, and also kind of like he just escaped from three days on a lifeboat after his yacht sank.

I feel like this might be a period in Cumberbunny's life that he privately looks back on as his "hat period."

What did I just tell you?

YES, he's draped in velvet, and YES those shoes are glittery. This is not the only time he's worn them, either.

I admit that I think it's possible that Gary Oldman and his sunglasses are the real star of this shot.

I just couldn't resist giving a little love to Colin Firth, Gary Oldman, and John Hurt, all in their tuxes.

Suspenders!

We've entered the period I call, "someone got a stylist." And she or he is very good at his or her job. This coat is DIVINE.

EVERYONE enjoys a little tie-straightening.

As well as jovial pointing.

And/or potentially too-short scarves.

This is quite dashing.

And this is very dapper, and has the added benefit of Lady Mary and Branson, lending a hand.

Speaking of Downton, hello, Cousin Matthew!

And if that was the Downton era of this slideshow, now I welcome you to the part of this retrospective wherein we get to revisit a variety of outfits on Keira Knightley.

And who doesn't love to see a gentleman jauntily deploying an umbrella?

He looks very handsome here, it's true, but I also wanted to look at this dress on Keira again.

Both BC and Tom Ford wear their formal wear very well. (And, for a moment, I did think Tom was wearing a green cape.)

He looks very handsome here, but the real star is Windsor Castle back there.

"And I was like, 'Kate, he's NOT going to give me any Sherlock spoilers.' I mean...right?"

One of my favorite things about writing retrospectives like this is seeing when spouses or noteworthy exes arrive on the scene in a major way. Here's Sophie! (Who I think always looks very well-dressed.)

NEVER FORGET. Any man who helps out making his own wax figure deserves a gold star.

And then there was his brief flirtation with a penguin.

There's always something appealing about a man in glasses.

The pose in this photo makes him slightly look as if THIS is his finished waxwork.

A classic suit on Bendy, a fun boho dress for Sophie.

I LOVED this dress. Oh, right -- this is supposed to be about him. You look smashing too, Benedict!

If only it weren't too late for me to make True Detective season three jokes about this photo.

At the time, I cracked that I felt like Bendy looked a bit like he was about to bring me a pina colada -- somewhere VERY posh, though. I stand by that.

SPORTFACES. (This was at Wimbledon.)

Same. Except with a Hugh Grant cameo.

This is a very smart look on him. I love the bag.

Cheers, indeed!

Swinton is only vaguely amused by all of this. Your fashion retrospective was first, Tilda. It's all good.
