This is a classic ballgown and the color is gorgeous. It's also texturally interesting. I do wonder if perhaps all her DIAMONDS did some of the heavy lifting here.

Emma Stone in Lanvin, 2012

Although I still like this dress, I do wonder if people's general Affection For Emma Stone in 2012 pushed her over the finish line. (I do love that she wore Lanvin, though, which never got as much major awards show play as it could have.)

Tina Fey in L'Wren Scott, in 2013

With a hello to Amy Poehler in her perfectly reasonable Stella McCartney, this year's crown went to Tina Fey and her DING DONG DISHY L'Wren Scott.

This is SO dreamy; 2014 was our introduction to Lupita, and her awards season red carpet run was truly glorious.

Julianne Moore in Givenchy, 2015

This was also during HER victorious awards season run and at the time, I believe I wished aloud to my living room that she had saved this for the Oscars, because I was worried her Oscars dress was going to be bad and she'd have to live with it in photos forever. (It actually was more-or-less fine but this is better.)

Oooh, remember this one? I love a patterned formal dress but they rarely win our Best Dressed polls. This was a worthy victor -- it has pockets!

Viola Davis in Michael Kors Collection, 2017

Simple, elegant, absolutely perfect on her. (If you can't tell from the photo, it's covered in tiny sequins.) She won this year for Fences. I do think that sometimes nominees win the Best Dress poll because their team is VERY locked in and focused on them, as they should be. This dress is so perfect.

THIS dress is ALSO so perfect! (This was the year she won for If Beale Street Could Talk and it also looked fantastic on stage.) Unimpeachable!

I told you we love sequins! And pockets! And this has both. This dress is gorgeous; I can't believe this was a mere two years ago? So much has happened since then.
