Lupita was not the first to wear a perfect cape to an award ceremony, but wow, she left no less of an indelible mark. Many tried after this, but it always felt borrowed.

Love.

This is so gorgeous. She wore this during Ben's Argo season, before she (presumably) told him to Argo F*ck Himself.

This was great, but doubly so because it's RODARTE, which astonished me. I'd have sworn Versace.

I wasn't sold on the head-styling, but this was noteworthy for being a huge improvement for her.

I love this INTENSELY.

This just really GOT me, for some reason: the color, the cascade of sparkles, how happy she seems, THE HAIR.

It just never gets old. This is so unusual and lovely and cool.

Dreamy. I think this was the year after she won for Still Alice, and she came back STRONG.

Also dreamy.

In the intervening years, I think we've all forgotten that she can pick stuff that's a great color, and INTERESTING, and fits properly. I dream in that hue.

This was controversial because of the plunge, but I still maintain she wrangled it perfectly, and that it's stunning.

Perfect.

She could, honestly, be in this slideshow for everything she wears, but I'm going with her big win.

This is so unusual -- I love the color combination.

She's so good at changing it up, and bringing joy to everything she wears.

Elegant and wonderful.

This was considered pretty ballsy at the time, and I am THRILLED she wore it. The floral is absolutely great.

This is gorgeous, and the shoes are the PERFECT finish.

I wish they were hosting this year. They, however, are probably relieved it's a minefield they're not traversing.

This looked better on TV, but it's still pretty damn good -- the most sophisticated she's looked.

GORGEOUS. So gorgeous.

I like this as much as I dislike Mr. Robot.

One of my favorite things she's EVER worn. Made doubly good by what a bummer her Oscars Chanel was.

One of my favorite designers for clean, cool glamour. Regina King looks amazing.

This is also very elegant on her.

So fun, and perfect lippy.

We've seen this recently also, but I will never get sick of it.

This is nice. Remember the HathaHair, also? I thikn this phase of it is the one I liked best.

She is so slick.

Hey, remember when THIS was happening? I have to say, she looks pretty stellar in that dress -- all the horizontal lines would be hard for a lot of people to pull off, but she looks hourglassy in it.

I miss her. She always wore SUCH interesting stuff.

Ah, Gucci. It was such a simpler time then. See you on Sunday, Margot.
