Susan and I are going through a rough patch in general, but here? It me.

In fact, as much as I love Jessica Lange, I think Sarandon is better in this show. Is that because I'm just predisposed to better appreciate a woman who storms into every scene wearing great sunglasses, yells at everyone, and then storms out? Yes.

In case you're wondering, "should I start attending all my business meetings wearing a tiny veiled hat and white enameled accessories," the answer is, "probably not."

Although this look -- with its amazing little vintage handbag -- works well for Joan when she decides its in her best interest to bang Jack Warner. A couple of points: (a) this show is literally 15% people reclining on chaises, and (b) there is no depth to any of these stories. Apparently -- brace yourself -- it's hard out there for a professional woman, because SEXISM, and therefore sometimes women feel the need to resort to not strictly business-like practices to succeed. Honestly, this show is very ham-handed, and it kind of bums me out. You can really tell that the scripts were written by men, because none of the dialogue between women really rings true to how women talk when they are alone. This was particularly the case in a later scene, where Kiernan Shipka has to give an impassioned speech to Bette Davis, about how hard it is for women to age out of being an object of desire (Kiernan is basically saying that Bette hates her because Bette isn't hot anymore, and she is). While that is absolutely a fact for many women, that monologue didn't feel lived in at all. And, not for nothing, the fact that it was Shipka delivering it -- although she did it well -- I just kept thinking, "I feel like *Mad Men* did this more delicately with Betty."

But red's your color, Kiernan.

Who doesn't want to accept her big professional award from her bed in a white satin jacket? I prefer to do all my work from a prone position. If you're curious, Joan was in bed during this particular Academy Awards because she had allegedly feigned illness to avoid having to be sitting there in the auditorium if she lost, which she thought she was going to do. THAT is a juicy bit that doesn't get any play in this particular program. I think part of the problem with this show is that it can't decide if it would rather lecture us about Sexism In The Movie Industry, or if really wants to write a proper drama with fully drawn and interestingly flawed characters. For my money, I think it too heavily leans on the fact that its actresses are deeply capable, and the writing turns out to be a bit rote?

![Feud recap episode two](https://static.gofugyourself.com/uploads/2017/03/IMG_4257-2-1489427555.png)

Not rote? This tiny hat.

This is honestly how I imagine myself looking every moment of every day, although I do not smoke, nor do I casually wear a fur slung around my shoulders all the time.

![Feud recap episode two](https://static.gofugyourself.com/uploads/2017/03/IMG_4262-2-1489427670.png)

Jack Warner is a sexist...who LOVES a fruit sculpture at parties!

![Feud recap episode two](https://static.gofugyourself.com/uploads/2017/03/IMG_4264-2-1489427706.png)

To be honest, I think Susan Sarandon would be well-served to actually just wear this entire outfit to her next red carpet event.

But the star of *Feud* is, and always will be, the many hats of Hedda Hopper. They are TREMENDOUSLY grand, and I love them. Judy Davis is amazingly good in this part -- she is the only person who really feels full of life; maybe because she wasn't constrained by the weight of having to play someone who was mega-famous to the general public? -- but her hats are a huge part of the equation.

![Feud recap episode two](https://static.gofugyourself.com/uploads/2017/03/IMG_4270-2-1489427800.png)

I mean, look at this!

![Feud recap episode two](https://static.gofugyourself.com/uploads/2017/03/IMG_4273-2-1489427846.png)

And don't sleep on Joan's red cape and leopard shoes.

You knew the patio furniture was coming. My kingdom for a Breton-striped set of pool loungers!

![Feud recap episode two](https://static.gofugyourself.com/uploads/2017/03/IMG_4288-2-1489427912.png)

Subtle. Subdued. Refined. This is exactly how I hope Heather and I will look in about ten years.

[The Best Looks From Feud, Episode TwoTo quote Fug Friend Grant's texted recap of this show to me, last night: "Judy Davis. Patio furniture. Hats."![](https://storage.ghost.io/c/bf/b9/bfb99790-924d-4e41-a7e6-5e3c6e04fe57/content/images/static-gofugyourself-com/uploads/2017/03/img_4288-1489429758.png)](https://go-fug-yourself.ghost.io/the-best-looks-from-feud-episode-two-03-2017/)
