The BET Awards Brought Us Many Compelling Patterns!

Marsai Martin

I don't think this look is Too Old for her, per se, but I DO think this might have been a good opportunity for her to do something a little kickier.

Sinqua Walls

Get ready for a lot of rad suits, like this one. (And me being unsure about what men should wear on their feet, in general.)

Ne-Yo

This is a LOT of look and it's very well-balanced. Ne-Yo knows what he's doing.

Lil' Kim looks like a cartoon version of herself in this. (Although the colors are very muted.) The purse seems handy in case a volleyball game breaks out.

Lizzo in custom House of Holland

Lizzo is the greatest and it's weird to say this about a person who is wearing a custom mini-dress made of wood-grain fabric with giant puffed sleeves, but this almost feels too muted on her.

Lala Anthony

This seems about right.

John Legend

Again, I have shoe confusion. On the other hand, I'm here for the sort of jazzy lounge-singer feel that he's leaning into.

H.E.R in Natori

Let's give H.E.R some credit for looking so good in a suit that might be inspired by a screensaver.

MAJOR. and Ro James

Those gold shoes are EVERYTHING TO ME.

I actually think this is very cool. The BET Awards are a fun, high-profile summer awards show and this is exactly how you wear shorts to them.

Billy Ray Cyrus, Lil Nas X

I feel like Billy Ray is regretting not turning up the heat on his -- classic, let's be real -- look.

Elijah Kelley

...I want this for myself?

Sho Madjozi

This sincerely looks like an art project. Not in a bad way.

Leland Bernard Martin

"Yes. My vest has a cape. It's 2019. Anything can happen."

DJ Khaled

DJ Khaled is just out there practicing his catalog poses

Miles Brown

Miles Brown continues to be my Favorite Hollywood Child.

Ryan Destiny

I have a lot of thoughts about shoes today, I'm just warning you in advance: I really like this dress, but would it work better with a more flat, casual shoe? (

Doja Cat

This seems VERY on the nose for a person who goes by "Doja Cat."

Rokhaya Diallo

Fabulous. (And those might be flats?) She is a French journalist and writer, and host of BET France, and generally we don't cover writers here, but how could I resist this? She looks amazing.

This is VERY cute, in a figure-skating adjacent way. (I don't love the shoes but how often can I say that? How often, friends?)

Angela Simmons

VERY appropriate for the waning days of Pride.

Johnny Gill

This is snazzy!

Kwaylon Rogers

This jacket is GREAT.

Teyana Taylor

This makes me wonder why Teyana isn't in the new Men in Black movie, because something about this makes her look like a very cool, very sexy alien who's popped down to earth to take care of business before realizing that we're all a lost cause and zapping back to her much, much groovier home planet.

B. Simone

I'm at a point right now where actually my biggest note is that I hate the hem on this, and wish it either went straight across OR it was just a full body-stocking. Commit to your sheer catsuit!

Florence Otedola, AKA DJ Cuppy

This dress is FUN.

Justine Skye

Obviously I wish this were lined, because it's actually great and I think the panties are distracting. (Her whole head looks fantastic, too.)

Big finish!
