"Big" for a VMAs post can mean volume, or randomness, or swing, or really pretty much anything that constitutes a talking point. We had not one but TWO references to [Madonna's iconic "Like a Virgin" from the first-ever VMAs forty years ago](https://go-fug-yourself.ghost.io/the-first-ever-vmas-included-icons-and-iconic-outfits-08-2020/), and of course the debut of Chappell Roan, who brought a rug AND a knight? Chappell wouldn't say what her inspiration was for this outfit, though she did hint that it connected with her performance -- and for that, she wore armor and there was a whole swordfight and a flaming prison, so maybe she was being her own damsel here. (Her glam squad later called it "[medieval royal fantasy](https://www.vogue.com/article/chappell-roan-2024-vmas?ref=go-fug-yourself.ghost.io).") Is it the VMAs version of pulling a Kelly Taylor and choosing herself? Let's say yes.
