I enjoy how smirky Sophie looks here; she and Kate always seem vaguely chatty in a way that I enjoy. They have a fair amount in common, actually, in that they are Normals who married into the royal family, so I can imagine they might secretly eyeroll at one another on occasion.

If she DID cut it, get used to clutching at your neck wondering where your hair is, Kate. JUST GET USED TO IT. (If it is cut, it's cuter this length that I would have anticipated. However, I kind of DON'T think it's cut because I feel like she would want to avoid the breathless KATE CUT HER HAIR stories on a solemn occasion. Kate, don't EVER count me out when it comes to writing a breathless hair story REGARDLESS of occasion.)

I think it's just pinned up, though. (I decided that here, she is turning back to tell the kids that UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES are they allowed to come dashing out onto this balcony because this is A SERIOUS EVENT and she will TURN THIS BALCONY AROUND.)

Thousands of people honour the war dead by gathering at the iconic memorial to lay wreaths and observe two minutes silence.
Of all these hats, I like Princess Alexandra's the best.

I've never seen a shot of these balconies from this angle, I don't think. It's quite logistically interesting, and this ceremony looks like it's quite moving and lovely, truly. I'm also going to pop in Informative Caption for you now: "Remembrance Sunday commemorates those Servicemen and women killed in all conflicts since the First World War. This year, The Queen viewed the ceremony from a balcony of the nearby Foreign and Commonwealth Office, alongside The Duke of Edinburgh. Her Majesty's wreath was laid on her behalf by The Prince of Wales." I wonder if the Queen misses getting to do the honors. There's been a lot of talk about how her not laying the wreath is part of a TRANSFER OF POWER to Charles, but while I'm sure she doesn't mind the idea of getting the public used to seeing him doing these things well in advance of his being king, she's MOSTLY not doing this particular thing because she doesn't want to tip over. She's 91! Most 91 year old women do not want to be doing aggressive bending over if they can avoid it.

Queen Elizabeth II, Prince Philip and Camilla
Remembrance Sunday service at the Cenotaph in London, United Kingdom - 12 Nov 2017
A handout picture provided by the British Ministry of Defence (MOD) shows Britain's Queen Elizabeth II (C), Prince Philip (L), Duke of Edinburgh and Camilla (R) Duchess of Cornwall as they watch the Remembrance Sunday service from the Foreign and Commonwealth balcony in London, Britain, 12 November 2017. Remembrance Sunday commemorates those Servicemen and women killed in all conflicts since the First World War. This year, The Queen viewed the ceremony from a balcony of the nearby Foreign and Commonwealth Office, alongside The Duke of Edinburgh. Her Majesty's wreath was laid on her behalf by The Prince of Wales.
I decided that here, QEII is telling Philip that she finds the balcony extremely boring and she wants to go back to wreath-laying, the possibilty of falling over be damned.

I wonder if Charles is pleased that he got to do the honors today. I would imagine part of him must be.

This is the part of the post where I inappropriately note that William looks about 15 years younger with this hat on and now you young people can truly understand how HOT LIKE FIRE he once was. (I mean, I still think he's attractive, but this hat is a great stand-in for the hair he used to have.)

Anne, as ever, is on the case. She's probably coming over to scold me for being inappropriately fixated on the trivial. YOU ARE RIGHT, ANNE. You are always right.
