Camilla Duchess of Cornwall, Queen Elizabeth II, Catherine Duchess of Cambridge
National Service of Remembrance, London, UK - 11 Nov 2018
If I may be slightly glib, it always vaguely makes me laugh that the angle of this photo reveals that this very dramatic balcony on this very lovely building...leads off a room with hideous overhead floro lighting. I also enjoy that both Camilla and Kate look Appropriately Somber, and the Queen has drifted into I'M VERY CROSS. (I suppose she might be very cross, but I think her Somber Face has a tendency to drift into Cross Resting Face; as a person with I'm Going To Murder You!!! Thinking Face, I'm sure I would be horribly chastised for my face at these events were I married to a royal. We'll find out when I shock you ALL and wed Prince Andrew.) (JK, I'd never do that to Fergs.)

Elke Budenbender and Meghan Duchess of Sussex
National Service of Remembrance, London, UK - 11 Nov 2018
Meanwhile, on another balcony (these balconies are very tiny, as you'll see shortly), Meghan is hanging out with Elke Budenbender, whose husband is the President of Germany, and whose Wikipedia is VERY BORING. (I do give her credit for looking like she's almost dressed in 1918 period gear for this event.)

And on yet ANOTHER Wee Balcony, we've got Mr Princess Anne, and Sophie Wessex, who is the only person whose entire ensemble we'll get to see, as she attended something else earlier wearing this. (I feel like this whole post is full of cliffhangers.)

Here's your Tiny Balconies. (I assume Kate and Camz are with Her Majesty because it's The Queen and the two women whose spouses are in the direct line of succession.) I think it's a compliment to Meghan that she was placed with the Honored Guest

One of my favorite things about this event is that everyone's Appropriate Serious Face starts looking like "What is THAT person doing OVER THERE? I AM SUSPICIOUS." Everyone, in other words, looks like part of Princess Anne's Doubtful Army. Also, the Queen is rather running out of room for all her poppies!

Meghan, Meghan Duchess of Sussex

This is the best look I have at Meghan's coat at the moment, and I don't have a credit for it yet either, although it suspect it's Givenchy just because (a) Meghan loves Givenchy and (b) those shoulder details feel very Givenchy. I do think they're a good way to give visual interest to a coat that's otherwise simple. This is sparse in a way that I think is elegant.

Speaking of Designers Beloved By a Duchess Who Turned to Them For Her Wedding Gown, this is of course McQueen. I personally am VERY into a military-inspired coat so I love it, with the caveat that the white collar might look a tiny bit ecclesiastical and I'm generally not in favor of this kind of collar -- though I like it better on a coat than I do on a shirt, because the military reference makes sense on a coat, at least.

I literally just pulled this photo because I thought it looked romantic, which is the first time I've ever thought that about Edward. (Sorry, Edward.) Sophie in that hat and that car looks like a lovely and perhaps tragic friend of Cora Crawley.

Speaking of romantic! Informative Caption tells us that "large crowds watch from the top of Whitehall as the minute's silence is about to start." What a beautiful shot. I love London.

Later, everyone came out to the service to mark the Centenary of the Armistice at Wabbey; it's always apt for the Queen to wear purple, and luckily it suits her. This hat feels ALMOST like a fedora?

I have ALWAYS loved this Catherine Walker coat on Kate -- it is my favorite of her green coats. (She most recently wore it for St Patrick's Day/to France, and I am so salty at William in that post! [It was when he went off Dorky Dad Dancing in Verbier.]) I still love it.

WHAAAAT is this headband? These are humorous to me. They are so bonkers retro. I do not particularly like them from an aesthetic standpoint because they are generally so goofy, but I really ENJOY them because they're so wacky? (I do think they're attractive from the front.) I also like the idea that Kate might just start stapling random shit to her head and calling it a hat. This sort of looks like a tiny neck pillow that you use so that you can sleep on a plane, surprisingly repurposed.

I pulled a few pics of Meghan so we could get a decent look at her suit -- it was hard to see some of the details because it was dark out. I actually really like this: the sort of 60s retro feel is charming. I wish the belt and those final row of buttons were just a HAIR further from each other, but I wonder if the belt is actually just riding up on her body as she walks. I don't have a credit on this, but it does remind me of that Prada two-piece that she has, including the placement of the belt vis a vis the buttons, so I wonder if it is Prada. ANYWAY. I always appreciate a Jackie O visual reference -- I think it suits her.
