Mimi, meanwhile, was ABSOLUTELY DRAPED in velvet. (They were not married at this point. Fun fact: Mimi is the one who brought Tom into Scientology, because she grew up in the organization. She and her family have since left the church and the rumor is that David Miscavige orchestrated the Mimi/Tom divorce because he wanted Tom to marry Nicole Kidman. We all know how that worked out!)

Here is Tom Cruise in a bolo tie, and Mimi in an outfit you could absolutely wear now. (In case you're wondering where we are in the Tom Cruise Career Arc, Color of Money and Top Gun came out the same year.

Do not ask me why Studio 54's Steve Rubell was at this event! But here he is with Paul -- looking gorgeous at sixty one years of age -- and Joanne, who looks deliciously kooky and rather cozy.

Just FYI, Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio made some truly amazing wardrobe choices for these premieres and I am BEREFT we can't see this whole outfit. I was 11 in 1986 and this was MY. DREAM. LOOK.

This particular event was at Chasen's Restaurant in Beverly Hills, which of course used to host a VERY famous post-Oscars party every year, and at which Elizabeth Taylor used to spend like THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS on chili to be shipped to her place in Mexico. It is now a Bristol Farms. Also: Let's talk about Jane's bag. I thought it was a tiny musical instrument.

Daphne Zuniga

Daphne Zuniga had such a thick fringe here that, at first glance, I thought she was wearing a hat.

Sometimes Emilio REALLY resembles his father.

Helen Shaver

Helen is in this film, and was a Canadian actress who has worked a lot, but is now mostly a TV director -- like a proper director, on things like Westwood and Lovecraft County and Reign and The OC. ANYWAY, this outfit IS AMAZING and I NEED her to weigh in on it. It's obviously lunacy from our current vantage point, but it was AWESOME in 1986 and I also think Lady Gaga could show up in it now and we'd all be into it.
