This entire show is basically like, "excuse me LOOK AT MY SLEEVES."
The Many Luxe Costumes of Versailles
Anna Brewster (Montespan)
They are lovely sleeves.
The Many Luxe Costumes of Versailles
Elisa Lasowski (Marie-Thérèse)
This is like two sleeves PER arm.
The Many Luxe Costumes of Versailles
George Blagden (Louis XIV), Noémie Schmidt (Henriette)
I also appreciate the show's devotion to capes.
The Many Luxe Costumes of Versailles
Elisa Lasowski (Marie-Thérèse),
Jessica Clark (Palatine)
THAT is a piece of outerwear!
The Many Luxe Costumes of Versailles
Noémie Schmidt (Henriette), George Blagden (Louis XIV)
This cape has a hood!

The velvet budget for this show must be HUGE.

I confess that I thought for a moment that several of these light fixtures were attached to people's heads. IT WAS BELIEVABLE.
The Many Luxe Costumes of Versailles
George Blagden (Louis XIV), Noémie Schmidt (Henriette)
So much trim. Everyone is trimmed. All the trim.
The Many Luxe Costumes of Versailles
Prince Anaba
In the middle of the first season, Versailles welcomed Prince Annabar (AKA Aniaba of Issigny), who, I learned from the BBC while looking up something for this Informative Caption, was a real person, but who might not have been a legitimate prince -- but Louis BELIEVED he was a real prince and supported his claim to be King of Senegal and basically I would like a TV show about this dude, too.
The Many Luxe Costumes of Versailles
George Blagden (Louis XIV)
No wonder everyone had so many servants in charge of, like, bleaching their personal linens. How could you possibly eat a nice plate of pasta without soiling your lace?
The Many Luxe Costumes of Versailles
Alexander Vlahos (Philippe, Monsieur)
A spot of cross-dressing, of course.
The Many Luxe Costumes of Versailles
Evan Williams (Chevalier), Alexander Vlahos (Monsieur)
"We missed the Lace Lovers meeting for November, Louis. I'M SO VEXED."
The Many Luxe Costumes of Versailles
George Blagden (Louis XIV)
When this show premiered, I proferred a theory that it's hard for adaptations of this time period to really take off because the man-hair is prone to being a bit goofy.
The Many Luxe Costumes of Versailles
I haven't decided if I stand by that still, or not.
The Many Luxe Costumes of Versailles
Alexander Vlahos (Monsieur), George Blagden (Louis XIV)
Capes are ALSO abundant for the dudes.
The Many Luxe Costumes of Versailles
George Blagden (Louis XIV)
Ditto nice linen nightgowns.
The Many Luxe Costumes of Versailles
Elisa Lasowski (Marie-Thérèse), George Blagden (Louis XIV), Noémie Schmidt (Henriette)
I imagine it's fun for the actors to also get to really dress up for once.
The Many Luxe Costumes of Versailles
Alexander Vlahos (Philippe)
And also perhaps to understand what it's like to wear heels and hose.
