I mean, come on.

Nicolas Cage and Diane Lane

This movie was such a flop that Diane Lane -- briefly -- quit acting and moved back to Georgia. (This happened the same year that she turned down both Splash AND Risky Business, which....had to have stung.) They were not dating here, just friendly co-stars; she was about to meet Christopher Lambert, with whom she was involved for a while.

Diane Lane and Vincent Spano

Vincent Spano was working a real Tony Danza vibe in 1984. (He's there, I assume, because of the Coppola collection, having been in Rumble Fish with Diane and Nic Cage and a bunch of people who were also in The Cotton Club who were not at this premiere.)

Eddie Murphy and Gregory Hines

They both look handsome AND this looks like a fun party.

Goldie Hawn, Richard Gere and Pat Kingsley

BOTH Goldie and Gere look very much the same, and there's Famed Publicist Pat Kingsley in the background. (She handled MANY mega-famous folks, but most famously made Tom Cruise into a star, and then he eventually fired her [allegedly because she wouldn't let him talk about Scientology as much as he wanted] and then he promptly went sofa-jumping and everyone knew, once and for all, that she truly was profoundly great at her job because clearly it was not that easy to keep Tom Cruise coralled.)

Diana Ross

Miss Ross looks so cozy in this VERY 80s look.

One of the funniest things in these old pictures is how everyone is smoking everywhere, all the time. (I mean, I'm middle-aged, so I definitely remember being able to smoke inside -- but people just smoke less now than they used to.)

Why NOT wear gold lamé pants?

Barbara Hershey and Jeremy Irons

I have no idea if they were dating here, but let's say yes: It's always more fun to just assume people were hooking up. Barbara looks classic; Jeremy Irons looks like it's VERY cold. Which, it was New York in December -- it was probably chilly enough.

Jeremy Irons and Michael Caine

Both of these people have looked exactly like themselves for AGES. (Especially Michael Caine.)

Susan Sarandon

Whatever work Susan Sarandon has had done in the last 30 years has been truly fantastic. She looks younger now than she did in 1984, when she was only 38.

Screenwriter Menno Meyjes and Musician Carly Simon

I did NOT think Carly Simon was a Matching Outfits Person!

"The Cotton Club" Premiered 34 Years Ago Today and The Photos Are Amazing
