To discuss: Would you like having a person come into your room in the morning to wake you up by opening your curtains? I would not because I don't care for humans before I've had my coffee, generally. HOWEVER, I WOULD like it if someone would bring me coffee while I am still in bed. I think this means I have to get married to a thoughtful early riser.

Seriously, this episode included about two hundred percent more Philip Exercising In Weird Outfits than anyone in the world ever, ever needed.

STOP IT.

WHY.

UGH

But I did laugh at the neck brace. I can admit it.

HIDEOUS!

CHEAP! (Seriously, though, this is stunning -- I'm sure one of you know what location this is, and I would LOVE to know, so please do share.)

It's amusing -- and very on the nose -- that a discussion framed as a "man to man talk" happened over billards; mostly, I'm just interested in the AMAZING wall paneling in this room!

The PM and Mrs Macmillan are a married couple who deserve separate beds, that much is for certain. I have to note that I LOVE Mrs Macmillan and she is REALLY REALLY mean. Truly just a stone-cold bitch to her husband in a way that I find kind of entertaining. Maybe Elizabeth and Macmillan need to sit down and chat about how their spouse makes them feel less than.

I went into a deep Wiki dive about Aunt Marina here in my Previously recap; mostly, here I just want to point out that this set is GORGEOUS and this entire scene is blocked as if the director just wants to scream THIS SET IS GORGEOUS at us the entire time.

To wit.

This is also an excellent visual metaphor for how alone Philip, that jerkweed, has left his wife. Literally and emotionally.

Just a shout-out to how hot his valet is, though.

Shut up, Tony Armstrong-Jones and your pretentious cordurory jacket. (But never stop, Matthew Goode: I love you forever. I feel like Matthew Goode is making me tolerate TAJ more than I might have otherwise, a corollary to the way my hatred of Philip is kind of making me accidentally hate Matt Smith?)

I just spent a LONG time trying to figure out what angle of Kensington Palace this is, because I don't remember that clock tower, and the Daily Mail (I KNOW) came through for me; it's on the side that doesn't face any public area.

Marg's apartments -- now Wills and Kate's place -- are AMAZINGLY well decorated. Say what you will about this woman and her headscarf, but she's got style.

I LONG FOR YOUR CREDENZA, MARGARET. But not your marriage. Before Wills and Kate were even engaged, there was actually an exhibit of...something in this apartment. It might have been portraits of Margaret? It was like...2006ish? Anyway, I remember going through it, and thinking that her apartment had amazing light.

This hat is wretched. It looks like a coffee cake on her head.

How disappointing to find out your spouse is dashing off to St Mortiz without telling you when you're wearing this terrible color.

It's a nice little touch that Philip is casually holding his flask, though. PULL IT TOGETHER, PHIL.

This show has SO many scenes of people just sitting on their beds. Peter Morgan must think women flop onto their beds basically constantly.

I've never been to Balmoral, so I don't know for sure, but in my heart, it certainly does have a great tartan stair runner.

And this TREMENDOUS CEILING.

It me.

So much staring. This episode would have been easily seven minutes shorter if they'd just dialed back all the staring.

Although Claire Foy mightly deserves all the close-up she gets. In this, her final episode, I must once again say: BRAVA, MADAME. She is brilliant in a part that gives her very little to truly do.

And also in this fab hat.

Do we think that Macmillan has got pants on, or no? (Also, this hospital set is stunning -- that wooden art piece against the back wall! -- and Liz DID get to deliver a very satisfying dressing down herein.)

I...really doubt they let Philip drive in the front gate when there are a bunch of agitators with rather polite signs milling about.

Tony Armstrong-Jones! So bold! Such an iconoclast! Lying on the floor of Buckingham Palace!

Not even bothering to get up when his brother-in-law shows up!

All hail Margaret's amazing cat-eye liner, though.

Hideous.

This episode did, however, make me wonder once again if I needed more SENSIBLE TWEED in my wardrobe, and also if you can grow roses in pots on a deck?

Flopping back on the bed, party of one and a half.

I just needed you to see that delicious rug.

"Where do I get my perfect cardigans? I'm afraid I'll never tell."

I'd also like to salute this show for its tremendous work in gallery walls. Sincerely, they're all amazing. I want my entire home to be gallery wall after gallery wall.

Sure, fine, whatever.

This is stunning; I'm glad they wrung the last drops of of the budget this season. (Truly -- even when this show has problems, at least it is always GORGEOUS.)

SAY CHEESE! And see you next season, Oliva Colman. I hope you come in ready to kick ass and take names.
