I could watch ten hours of Princess Alice smoking in her nun's habit, talking to people.

Imagine having to downgrade from this!! What IS the next stop down? A HOVEL?! No one understands what terrors Philip faces.

Ah, the return of Her Majesty's beloved twin set.

ALL HAIL PRINCESS ANNE.

Ah, yes, here we are back in Who The Hell Are These People? land. I of course know that we've got Lord Snowden there but WHO ARE THE REST OF THEM?! Seriously can someone please just use a name in dialogue?

We're moving into a period of Regrettable Patterns for fashion.

Question: How could you even see the person sitting across from you?

Ah, hello, familiar tiara. (Although the real one feels taller than this.)

SURELY Princess Anne owned a bra that looked smooth under a knit top.

CORGI (and side-eye!) BREAK.

I loved these scenes of Princess Anne and her Grandmother chatting

I also just really liked this reception desk. Is that so wrong?

This show has a LOT of scenes of people reading the paper.

Erin Doherty has NAILED this Skeptical Expression.

"Shall we drink every time there's a scene of us reading the paper?"

Having said all that: These scenes with Philip and his mother were VERY satisfying and good.

On to Episode Five: Very Philip-y, no?

This episode was quite long, comparatively -- in part because we spent A LOT of time listening to Dickie Mountbatten speechify about The Old Days -- but it was nicely directed in a lot of ways.

Respect for the acknowledgement of the restorative qualities of a bath.

THIS HAT IS HIDEOUS.

This was a nice moment, wherein the Queen takes off her Queen Outfit and puts on her Elizabeth, The Horsey Lady Outfit, and this moment of her picking a bit of lint off her dresser felt very human and sweet.

Hello, another INSANE hat.

Who are these cranky old men? WHO KNOWS?!?! Bank of England, some of them maybe? Newspaper....owners?

Welcome to what I call Elizabeth's Grand Tour of Scarves and Tweed.

All right, we get it -- you love an overhead shot.

This is good scarf.

I AM pleased to be reunited with Dickie Mountbatten's FANTASTIC fireplace.

I wish I could wear a scarf like this and not look like...you know, an old woman.

You can tell she's happy with Porchey, out here with the ponies. LOOK AT THE SUNGLASSES.

And the riding! IN TROUSERS!

As I said, this scene is really well done -- and it's very frustrating when Dickie Mountbatten And His Dumb Coup Attempt interupt this important life chat. I think Colman is very good at these scenes that, uh, let her have actual human emotions?

Like this one, where she is PISSED. (Correctly.)

I do appreciate that this show -- like Downton, actually -- lets its older characters have an actual inner life.

FINALLY SOME KISSING, JEEZ.

And big props to both Philip's "wheeeeeeeeeeee she still likes me!" face....

....and her "he's still dreamy!" body language.
