Margaret's necklace here is STUNNING. If one must read a Dear Margaret letter (of sorts; he's basically telling her he is breaking his promise NEVER TO LOVE AGAIN), one always prefers to do so in fabulous accessories.

This shot is so beautifully composed. It's almost like she's IN the artwork.

ENTER DUCKFACE. In an enormous hat. (Duckface is so named because that was her character in *Four Weddings and a Funeral*. I am not MYSELF calling her a duckface.)

Matthew Goode is VERY adept at bedroom eyes. So much so that sometimes ALL his expressions look like bedroom eyes, even if what's actually happening is that he's watching his mother arrive.

However, he also uses them plenty in the boudoir as well, or while he's banging women on the stairs...

The Queen Mum's intense love of nature shows is very amusing to me. But that couch also looks quite comfortable.

I love that Margaret, while in a fight with Tony, was stomping around in a black coat like she was at a funeral. She is delightfully dramatic. I just wish *The Crown* had decided to shade her with other, more positive colors.

Margaret's ring was quite lovely, and this is a good replica. Tony Jones apparently chose a ruby to evoke her middle name, Rose.

Claire Foy's facial expressions when Margaret announces the blessed news are priceless. Here, she is totally failing to hide her surprise and slight suspicion.

And here she manages to be SO astonished when Margaret gives her a hard time about, effectively, The Peter Townsend Intervention. Given that Margaret can hold a grudge as easily as she holds a cigarette, this naivate on her part does not add up.

Elizabeth spends the whole engagement party totally unable to conceal her general discomfort, and I'm a bit surprised Margaret didn't tear a strip off her sister for looking so bridal. It seems like something that would have bugged the heck out of her.

Also, as witnessed in the last shot and this one, there is NEVER a shot in this ENTIRE SHOW where the interior lamps and lights aren't blazing. Even during the middle of the day.

I find it also subtly bitchy -- in a good way -- that Margaret came to see her new nephew in dark, foreboding colors.

Except for Anne's, of course. The camera was MUCH more interested in chronicling Anne's apparent distress. WE all know that Anne was, even at a young age, hot on the trail of a criminal and preparing to question some potential witnesses. But what did the DIRECTOR think this meant? Anne has never had more than two seconds on-screen with Margaret OR with her mother, or anyone, so are we meant to think she was hyper-aware of all the tension? I don't buy it.

This was a very faithful recreation, though, and Vanessa Kirby cuts a stellar figure in it.

This friendly moment was lovely for them, beautifully composed visually, and totally undercut when a second later Philp turned his face out to the window and made a "THIS IS SUCH A BAD IDEA THOUGH" facial expression. Which, let's be honest, we'd all have been making that face. It's rare that Philip speaks for everyone, and yet here we are.
