God Save the Casting Director

This actress was cast for the earlier seasons, and therefore is GREAT casting for a young Vanessa Kirby, but it's very distracting to see her big blue eyes crying into a mirror and then see that her eyes turned a different color when she turned into HBC.

God Save the Bedroom Set

This is a very poetic shot: Elizabeth, sitting still in bed and thinking deeply, and Margaret preening at her vanity.

God Save the Feathered Lid

This episode really leans into headgear and I am delighted about it. I'm ready for this hat to make a comeback. Come on, Camilla! Bring it, Kate! Order it in navy, Meghan!

God Save Whatever That Is

In case you were unclear, MARGARET is the dazzling one and ELIZABETH is the bland one who wears shapeless clothes and hats.

God Save the Lack of Amusement

The show LOVES putting Elizabeth in pink for her various meetings with older dudes in power.

God Save the Lady Crowley's Lovers

HELLO, Michael Gregson! Lady Edith's baby-daddy inherited the Martin Charteris role from Bertie, Lady Edith's husband. We all demand that Edith's ill-fated groom take on the role in later seasons.

God Save the Royal Wave

Well THIS suit didn't travel that well.  Also what is that random bow tie stuck to her middle button?

God Save the Footwear

But, oh, the heels. They are Margaret to a tee. DAZZLING, YOU SEE. BeDazzling, even.

God Save the Montage

We don't get the best looks at all of Margaret's outfits from the U.S. tour, but we do get her posing for photographers and a bored Tony blowing it off and going inside. Because he's above all this, you see. (At least, when it doesn't center around him.)

God Save the Shades

This photo is a mood. Specifically, I wish it were my mood.

God Save the Patio

Margaret did love a sleeveless dress, apparently.

God Save the Crown

I do this every night.

God Save the Back Shot

One thing Helena Bonham Carter does, which you obviously can't see here, is walk drunkenly in her low slingbacks. She takes very clompy deliberate steps and always seems two seconds away from turning an ankle.

God Save the Scenery-Chewer

This characterization of LBJ was as broad as a cruise ship. Clancy Brown ate so much scenery that they had to build a duplicate of everything.

God Save the Office

Did we see as much of this set in seasons 1 and 2? We get a lot of it here, and so: Elizabeth's mustard-colored office.

God Save the Props

Tony is reading the famous publication Ladies' Fashion.

God Save the Director

This shot made me laugh. Margaret, sick in bed, picks up Ladies' Fashion and the back page photo covers her head perfectly, and is exactly what she looks like for most of the show: peering over sunglasses.

God Save the Urinals

Why do SO MANY shows like setting entire scenes in men's bathrooms, with one or both characters urinating?

God Save the Scowl

This is Elizabeth's face as she watches rapturous coverage of Margaret overseas. I am not sure I buy Elizabeth being jealous of Margaret just for getting some attention in the U.S. The Queen got attention everywhere, but also never seemed to WANT that kind of attention.

God Save the Sensible Blouse

Here is Liz, at home in her frumpy shirt...

God Save the Gown

... while Margaret whips out her finest finery at the White House to dine with LBJ. This was an awesome outfit on HBC.

God Save the Milliner

And THIS was EXCEPTIONAL. I enjoy the sky blue shoes with her gown, but LOOK AT HER HAT.

God Save the Milliner For Real

She is wearing a stuffed animal on her head. It's incredible.

God Save the Window

"I do hope Tony doesn't notice that I turned his favorite binky into a hat."

God Save the Thinking

Back to back shots of Women Fretting While Staring Out Windows! DRINK.

God Save the Sets

In case you were wondering, The Crown's floral budget is as large as all the other ones.

God Save the Line Producer

This show is so lush, I can't even process it all.

God Save the Limericks

I mean, this episode DID make LBJ and Margaret look fun.

God Save the Smile

This is Elizabeth's face when she greets Margaret, trying so hard to be happy for her sister's success...

God Save the Colman

... and then being stopped dead in her tracks by Margaret's suggestion that Elizabeth, being so very busy and all, should split her duties a bit more with Margaret so that her soul won't be ground into a million pieces.

God Save the Bland Color Palette

They're at Windsor in this scene, with Elizabeth in full-on granny mode that I now associate with the Queen rambling about Balmoral.

God Save the Jacket

I love Margaret's suit here, and also, HBC's face falls exquisitely when Elizabeth rounds the corner with Philip and avoids Margaret's eye -- the clear sign Margaret will once agai nnot get what she wants. HBC has a lot of very BIG BIG SCENES but she also does play a lot of small moments beautifully, which, after the Tim Burton movies and the Bellatrix Lestrange of it all, I often forget she can do.

GOD BLESS THE MUSTACHE

I SAVED THE BEST FOR LAST. Thank you, Peter Morgan, for understanding that the ONE thing I want as often as possible are flashbacks to Tommy Lascelles being judgmental.

The Crown's Second Episode is The Helena Bonham Carter Hour
S3 E2 is called "Margaretology."
