The Emmys, celebrating my beloved TV, are happening FOR REAL IN PERSON WITH PEOPLE on September 19th; Cedric the Entertainer is hosting in what I think might be an inspired choice. (He IS entertaining, it's in the name.) It feels like a *lot* of big names of nominated this year, which will be fun for us red carpet watchers. I think the biggest headline is that [Mj Rodriguez became the first transgender person nominated for a lead acting Emmy](https://variety.com/2021/tv/news/mj-rodriguez-first-trans-woman-lead-acting-emmy-1235014189/?ref=go-fug-yourself.ghost.io), which is great! (Laverne Cox, of course, was nominated several times for *Orange Is the New Black* in the supporting category.) In other exciting news, it's going to be fun to see which shoes Uzo Aduba wears; apparently if you go by awards shows, [the exact same performance of *Hamilton* is somehow a TV program, a stage play, *and* a theatrical movie](https://www.latimes.com/entertainment-arts/tv/story/2021-07-13/emmys-2021-nominations-hamilton-lin-manuel-miranda?ref=go-fug-yourself.ghost.io); there are a LOT of people in *The Handmaid's Tale*, a show I do not watch because it seems like a bummer; and I look forward to seeing the cuties from Ted Lasso enjoy themselves outside of the confines of Zoom! Here are all the nominations; please join me and the great Ron Cephas Jones and his pocket square and the also great Jasmine Cephas Jones and her dramatic top, who announced them, to discuss! **Drama Series** The Boys (Amazon) Bridgerton (Netflix) The Crown (Netflix) The Handmaid’s Tale (Hulu) Lovecraft Country (HBO) The Mandalorian (Disney+) Pose (FX) This Is Us (NBC) **Lead Actress, Drama** Uzo Aduba (In Treatment) Olivia Colman (The Crown) Emma Corrin (The Crown) Elisabeth Moss (The Handmaid’s Tale) Mj Rodriguez (Pose) Jurnee Smollett (Lovecraft Country) **Lead Actor, Drama** Sterling K. (I want to give a special shoutout to my friends Greg Finton and Azin Samari, who were nominated for editing *Billie Eilish: The World’s A Little Blurry*, as well as my friend Lyle Gamm, who EP'ed that delicious Stanley Tucci in Italy series, AND my friend Max Swedlow, who EPs *Shark Tank!* I worked with all of these very talented folks in my former life in reality TV and therefore literally all four of them have witnessed me cry at work.) (And, I just noticed, my friend Lisa Steele, who works on *Drag Race*! I don't think I ever cried in front of her at work, though, in large part because Heather was our boss on that job.)
