This feels like a cousin to Noomi Rapace's recent outfit, which was by Robert Wun -- who is also behind Tracee Ellis Ross's recent pleats. This outfit also seems to be in a video on the designer's instagram, so I'm going to call it as his. Sculptural + pleats is drama I can get behind, but am I nuts, or does Janelle's makeup not quite meet the moment?

... and then this in-between shade. I'm GUESSING this one is the closest? I like the suit regardless, but I want to know what I'm co-signing! Also, this backdrop makes me laugh. You know when you go to a tourist attraction like, say, the Space Needle, and right when you enter, they take your photo in front of a green screen and then try to charge you a fortune for "a photo in front of the view"? That's what this looks like.

I love how hard Janelle Monae works to pose in these things, but it's not solving the puzzle of this dress for me. It's such a mish-mash. It needed two fewer ideas. (Also, this makeup would have worked better with the other outfit.)
