The memo for this definitely just said, "come as your Most Self-Like Self." Hence, Mary Steenburgen looks like she's having a lovely party on her back patio with catered BBQ and margaritas in beautiful glass pitchers (she seems like a Beautiful Glass Pitcher Person, you know?); Jane Fonda is dressed like a movie star of a certain age going to a movie premiere, which is both glamorous *and* factual; Candice Bergen looks like a woman who used to be partner in a fancy law firm and who is now the president of the Junior League and is WASP-y and competent and has never been seen with messy hair and has an exceptional garden; and Diane Keaton...looks like Diane Keaton.
