The new head designer at Chanel did not fully abandon tweed -- how could he, really -- but I think it's quite telling that so few of his celebrity guests wore it. To me, this collection feels more contemporary and less hamstrung by history; he seems far less encumbered by Lagerfeld's legacy, and it was long past time. Whether you respond to it or not, I *do* think it's blown away the stale air of prior seasons.
