I will say, I think Kiernan Shipka has some CUTE dresses. They're all flirty halter tops, generally polka-dotted, and v. cute.

See? The casting person who looked at Baby Kiernan and decided she would fly as the off-spring of January Jones and Jon Hamm is good at her job. (The twins are Crawford's daughters Cathy and Cindy, about who I know very little, but, as always, Vanity Fair has the scoop.)

I honestly think my grandmother had that self-same brooch. The brooch budget on this show much have been astronomical.

This has nothing to do with costuming, but I need to know why Joan starts her correspondence so far down on this card.

Of course Martha has a cardigan chain. I kind of wish that I did, too.

Speaking of cardigans, how cute is this one?!

This was definitely one of the best scenes of this episode, and perhaps of the series, wherein Joan tells Bette that her step-father had sex with her when she was 11; Bette is, of course, horrifed and sad for Joan, but Joan pushes her feelings away. A very well-done scene from them both. (And one that I think was filmed at El Compadre, on Sunset, where I have consumed many flaming margaritas.)

In which Hedda Hopper has a very juicy convo with Joan, whilst getting her nails done in her amazing living room and wearing a great dressing gown. THESE days, the manicurist would probably run out and spill all this gossip on the internet, but there were a limited number of places to leak back in the day.

I too lift weights in a leotard under a giant oil painting of my younger self.

I have to note that the many scenes of Bette looking exasperated whilst drinking and smoking makes ME want to smoke while I drink and feel exasperated.

And obviously all her storming around in amazing sunglasses speaks to me.

What did I tell you? This ENTIRE SHOW is good sunglasses.

And this hat on Hopper is PROFOUND. Here, by the way, they are at Perino's, which was a very famous LA restuarant and which is now an apartment building. My parents took me there once for dinner when I was very young -- maybe 12? -- after they took me to see Cats and it was a very memorable life experience. It looked just like this, as I can recall.

Even Martha has great sunglasses -- a top her fab quotation-mark-covered shirt-dress, which is certainly something that I need in my life.

Yes. We also all probably need a chapeau that looks like a Mickey Mouse hat made of hydrangea. Obviously. Perfect for those days were you don't know what to wear to work.

I have quite sincerely never seen a show that involved so much storming into a room in sunglasses. It's like 65% of this program. (Here, Bette is rescuing Victor Buono, who was picked up when the cops raided an underground gay movie theatre [people weren't watching the movie too much]. There's no evidence this actually happened, but I DID think the scenes with Victor and Bette were really good.)

Are we ever going to go back to a day when women carefully match their necklaces with their earrings? Asking for a friend.
