Lady Gaga
National Board of Review Awards Gala, Arrivals, New York, USA - 08 Jan 2019
Gaga was there to accept her best actress award -- an accolade that fascinating to me, considering that I think it's possible she won't get an Oscar nomination (primarily because I think that movie has lost momentum; National Board of Review votes and announces its winners really early and then has their party later) -- in what Ralph Lauren's press release called "a custom Ralph Lauren Collection tuxedo-inspired halter gown embellished with more than 23,000 jet crystals and a custom hand painted gold and black feather cape." What they're calling a cape, I thought was a very large and festive handbag, but that aside -- she looks superb in this. This also seems like a good place to note that I like the font that the National Board of Review is using.

I just pulled this one because I felt like you couldn't see her makeup that well in the previous shot, and it's so fetching. (And I think Gaga has such a great profile.)

EVERYONE is going Sexy Tootsie this awards season, and I am here for it. This is super on her. I wish she'd worn it to the Golden Globes! (Crazy Rich Asians won for "Best Ensemble," which feels fair.)

I am full-on Heart Eyes Emoji about this dress.

She also won, and she looks super in this -- very Old Hollywood Glam. (With a bonus helping of Impressive Lady Arms. Damn. I need to move my limbs more often.)

I GET why she's wearing these shoes with this dress -- it toughens it up while still referencing the 70s feel -- but I don't know if I LIKE it? Ankles up, though, this is good.

This is very simple, but I like it on her a lot. It feels vintage, but in a more relaxed way than you tend to get with vintage.

This whole look feels like Sophia Bush is starring in a sophisticated nighttime soap where she throws a cut-glass crystal vase against a wall at least every three weeks. (This is, in case it's not clear, a compliment.) Bias-cut satin is tough to wear; she looks great.

Sweet Elsie Fisher, of Eighth Grade, looks very cute in this kicky suit -- I love how much she's wearing pants on this press tour -- and also like she's OVER THIS CIRCUS. Mom and Dad, it might be time to give Elsie a little downtime.

I weirdly kind of like this dress on Maggie; it's the dress version of the 70s leotard she would have worn in a period reboot of A Chorus Line, and that's an aesthetic that works with her face. Peter, of course, looks like your humanities professor who accidentally slept in his office.
