She had a tough night. This was made for her, and it looks too small and overwhelmingly childish. I hope the money they paid her is all funding things that make her truly, riotously happy, because it is not resulting in any red carpet joy.

That's pretty, but I feel like someone needed to starch-spray the bodice or something so that the various petals stood up a bit better. Also, it might need... a very very thin belt or ribbon at the waist seam, maybe? I can't decide if that would bust up the flow or not.

Apparently these are Greta's five best friends from college, and they decided to show up in something identical so that they'd look like her Oscar bridesmaids. I find that really sweet.

That's not so wildly different that I understand the need to change. I like the idea just fine, but the overlay looks a bit constricting at the neck. The detail at the bottom also makes me think of an accent stripe in a bathroom shower stall, but that's probably because I had to totally gut and redo my bathroom and so I've recently spent a lot of time in tile stores.

90th Academy Awards - Vanity Fair Oscar Party, Beverly Hills, USA - 04 Mar 2018
Well, the theme of Betty's night was Cleavage. I feel like both dresses were nice, but both would've been better if they'd just RELAXED a little and not tried quite so exhaustingly hard. Like, this could still be sexy without being cut so low and letting quite so much hang out. Or, if it simply insisted upon that, then I'd have had the neckline go up toward her shoulders, because this way it looks like it slipped down and she's trying to tense her body to keep it in place.

This cut always makes the pelvic part of the dress look really heavy. I understand wanting to wear a bunch of different designer clothes, in theory, but her Versace was marvelous and this is a downgrade.

I love this. I don't get why she didn't wear it all night. Another filmy sparkly beige dress won't get the attention that something like this will, for one thing, and high impact is the name of that game.

That's pretty. If it were a white backing, she should've worn it to the Oscars. It would've looked more gold/coppery, whereas it reads brown here, in a way that's harshing its buzz for me. Also I can see a lot of what the lining is doing.

What is going ON with her? Suddenly her hair looks a little wet, and in every picture we had, she was standing in this vintage Paris Hilton pose where it's half-preening, half-yoga. I get why she changed out of a white dress -- that will be a magnet for stains -- but this is a decidedly non-dreamy alternative.

This is very dowdy. Also, if you're taking off a dress with a big train that will get trampled, why are you putting ON a dress that STILL has a train that will ALSO get trampled?

That's a very accomplished dress that seems too old for her. If she was doing to do it, I think I'd have scraped back her bangs and done her hair in a sleek bun. The braid is absurd.

I'm wishing for non-matchy shoes. Otherwise, she is basically proving you can put any cut of dress on her and have it hang ideally.

She should have worn this to the actual Oscars. It's got AMAZING workmanship in that skirt, and the color is superb. Her other choice was dingy and blah; she'd have stood out marvelously in this.

I quite liked her first dress. This is SUPER zany, but I applaud her for being like, "When we party, I want to do it in A CAPE." It's like adding a degree of difficulty -- putting quads in the second half of your program -- rather than taking it away.

This is genius. It's crisp, it's clean, and it's related to what she wore earlier -- like she simply tore off the top and replaced it with a blouse. It's a smart styling strategy to keep the two looks related.

Another one who traded a very very dramatic dress for a still fairly inconvenient one. It's forgettable: lovely fabric that would've shone if cut differently (or cut at all; seriously, she and Saoirse both look like someone just wrapped a bolt around them and stapled it). Nowhere near as groovy as the big red ensemble she had on earlier.
