This was at the premiere of Mean Girls. Can you imagine a celebrity wearing something this normal and daytime to a major premiere now?

Or an actress of McAdams's age wearing pantyhose to an event, now? TIMES, THEY HAVE CHANGED.

This, on the other hand, is the premiere of The Notebook and this dress would fly today too, I think. I actually love those shoes.

Ah, yes. Allow me to introduce you to the concept of THE GOING OUT TOP, Circa 2005. I had a lot of these and I went drinking in them all.

In fact, I LITERALLY wore this exact outfit to many, many bars back in 2005. Sadly, I did not have Gosling there to sling his arm around my neck.

MEMORIES.

It turns out McAdams was really into hose for longer than I would have anticipated. (I love tights, but as soon as I could get away with wearing pantyhose, I 86ed 'em.)

I didn't like this at the time, but I totally retract that now. What can I say? Sometimes I was wrong.

Girlfriend's roots are INTENSE here, but this dress remains super cute.

If you JUST judged from this slideshow, you'd think Gosling ONLY wore shirts about Darfur in 2005.

This is inexcusable, now and forever.

But she could wear this today and no one would complain. It's great.

Same. I LOVE this.

In which Rachel McAdams considers taking over the lead in Cabaret.

Too short. TOO SHORT.

Too close to your skin ton! TOO CLOSE!

My issue here is actually the shoes.

This also remains cute.

JUMPSUITS HAVE BEEN PLAGUING US SINCE 2009?!?!

This slideshow has also proved to me that Rachel McAdams has a long-running affection for a good red lip.

NOOOOOOOO. A world of no. She looks like she's wearing recycled paper towels.

Ahhh, much better. This is glorious -- one of my favorite Oscars dresses in recent memory.

I still have my doubts about the cut of this bodice, but MOST of this dress is a delight.

On the other hand, I kind of liked this at the time, and NOW I think it's INSANE and HIDEOUS. Shrug.

Pass.

Were black shoes the right call here?

Doll, this is where you needed that lipstick!

This is more Real Housewife than I'm comfortable with from Rachel McAdams.

This, on the other hand, is more Jane Eyre.

This was sort of good. I don't think I liked it when it happened, and I retract that.

This dress is also perfect if you're invited to the opening of a W hotel.

Her head looks GREAT here. The rest of it is SO bland.

Can't call THIS one bland.

Hey, Jake!

I'm still not over this one.

Oh, god, same. This is awful.

2015 was a rough year for McAdams, stylistically.

But this was a bright spot.

As was this, as we head into last year's awards season.

I stand by my feeling about this, which was Cute But Too Short.

This was very pretty.

This was kinda 80s, but not really in a bad way.

THIS WAS AWFUL.

And this, at the Vanity Fair afterparty, was WONDERFUL. I believe we heard that she planned to wear this to the ceremony but changed her mind last minute, and I really wish she hadn't. Let's just pretend she wore this all night.

I long for the return of the red lip. LONG FOR IT.

PASS.

I don't remember how I felt about this at the time -- feelings! Who can remember how they work?! -- but I like it now. It feels sexy and mean.

This is like Paper Source's finest work yet.

And, finally, let us hope this marks the last of the sheers. Please. PLEASE.
