We begged her to go with color, and she did, and she looks gorgeous in it. But the dress is a weird hybrid of Belle from Beauty and the Beast, and the Michelle Williams gown we always reference -- the one from 2006 -- and both of those are better. Mostly because I don't actually know what the bodice is doing.

I do love a good twirl, though.

Her bodice doesn't fit, and she really should not have been trying to Clorox her countertops before the Oscars.

I kept thinking of this as beige, but it might have enough blush in it that I COULD have put it in pink. But, we are here now. It's a very delicately pretty gown, actually. I wish for a deeper berry lip, perhaps, and I always think of her as a funky suit person (I don't know why). But I like this.

THIS lipstick would have been great on Letitia. This dress, however, might not be good on anyone.

Kelly Ripa arrives for the 91st annual Academy Awards ceremony at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood, California, USA, 24 February 2019. The Oscars are presented for outstanding individual or collective efforts in 24 categories in filmmaking.
Arrivals - 91st Academy Awards, Los Angeles, USA - 24 Feb 2019
Gorgeous. Kelly often gets really good gowns, and it is with extreme apologies to Kelly (and no disrespect intended) that I say: Why isn't someone more noteworthy getting some of these? Imagine Laura Dern in that instead of the sleepy berry Rodarte.

SOMEHOW I didn't know Cicely was there, and only saw her by chance this morning. She looks so DRAMATIC. I love that she went all-out and I wish someone had given her and Billy Porter a camera and a mic for an hour and just let it roll.

She was one of the documentary nominees for Minding the Gap, and I kept seeing her dress on the carpet in the background and LOVING IT, so I had to share. The belt is kind of a bummer, but I am all in on the fabric.

Bette Midler
91st Annual Academy Awards, Show, Los Angeles, USA - 24 Feb 2019
It is both refreshing and deeply strange that the sheerest moment we had all night was on Bette freaking Midler. WHO KNEW. (That song from Mary Poppins was such a clunker. Why bring out Bette for something so boring?)

Okay, actually, her dress was the sheerest, but I couldn't tell if she KNEW that. We didn't have a full-length shot, but you are getting the gist right now.

Becky Neiman-Cobb and Domee Shi - Animated Short - 'Bao'
91st Annual Academy Awards, Show, Los Angeles, USA - 24 Feb 2019
Domee is wearing a gown Christina Hendricks just wore -- which is how we learned (via Twitter) that a Fug National wore it as her wedding gown. All three ladies look great in this GORGEOUS dress, but obviously we are giving the win to our Fug National, who I hope will identify herself in the comments. She looked beautiful.

Jaime Ray Newman and Guy Nattiv - Live Action Short Film - 'Skin'
91st Annual Academy Awards, Show, Los Angeles, USA - 24 Feb 2019
Jaime Ray Newman played a Cassadine on GH for years, so of course I am delighted to see her winning Oscar gold (for her short film). We also saw her earlier today, but I thought you might appreciate this pic. I enjoy that this looks like she's singing her speech.

Lady Gaga - Original Song - 'Shallow', 'A Star Is Born'
91st Annual Academy Awards, Press Room, Los Angeles, USA - 24 Feb 2019
Gaga looked very orange, didn't she? But also happy. I don't necessarily love "Shallow," but that was easily the best of the live performances, so you can see why it won -- and also, in the context of the movie, it's a defining moment. I enjoy that she picked a dress that's quite closely connected to the one she wore on the red carpet, stylistically. Presumably she didn't keep that one on because sitting and/or breathing in it was annoying (she performed in this).

I did laugh a little at how shocked she seemed to win, because she has won EVERYTHING for this song and I suspect her surprise was somewhat TaylorSwiftian in nature. Having said that: I am never going to win one of these, but even if you promised me I would, I would still be shocked as hell to see it end up in my hand. So, ignore me.

She looked better in this massive thing than in the Elie Saab on the red carpet. I also would have LOVED watching her try to wrangle this sucker during the pre-show.
