Rob Mendez was born without arms or legs; he's a high school football coach here in California, and he won the Jimmy V award last night, which awards preserverence. His speech was great, and he's very handsome without his glasses on -- which is a surprising turn around, as generally people are, as you know, hotter in sunglasses. Ciara and I BOTH teared up. (We're covering her later.) (She is SO gorgeous, jeez.) (One thing I thought was really interesting about watching him speak is that he sort of wandered around while speaking in a way that felt VERY "football coach speaking extemporaneously" to me; his wheelchair so perfectly approximated what he might have done on legs. Science is rad.)

He's on the 76ers, but he played for the Vols in college and his pants are like the formal version of Tennessee's striped warm-up pants! I feel like that might have been subconscious.

He's a Paralympic gold medalist in men's ice sledge hockey (which is like hockey you play on a sledge), and that suit color is perfect for his coloring.
