I have to say that I think Melania has looked pretty good -- if a bit on the nose, as you'll see later -- this trip, although I always have some issues with her fit. Here, she's in Burberry; that's a blouse with an attached bow, not a really aggressive scarf. It's classic diplomatic dressing to wear such a quintessentially British brand when they touch down.

This is VERY on the nose -- it's extremely Eliza Doolittle Goes to Ascot -- and I think it's a half-size too snug on her. But it's also kind of amusing and very crisp on her. I like it as a garment? Having said that: I personally find D&G problematic on a lot of levels, but it's also not a huge surprise that she's sporting them here. She wears them *a lot*, and they've been vocal supporters of hers.

I am not a fan of either of these people and therefore I must tell you that I am not being unbiased when I note that I really hate Ivanka's hat. It looks like a misshapen pita worn too low on her head.

And this feels like too much happening with the pleats on the skirt AND the ruffle on the peplum. I think you have to go with EITHER pleats OR ruffle. I ALSO think the beige shoes are a weird call. I have NOTES!

Again, I do think Melania's dress is a tick too snug for my taste, but the hat is great on her and it's basically, I think, working. The other two look deeply like themselves.

This photo is hilarious, as it really does -- at first glance -- look like he's fist-bumping the queen. (He's just a habitually weird hand-shaker.)

There is a weird light falling on Melania's torso, which makes her look like her dress has a lighter hip portion -- it's just the light. (Someone forgot to close a curtain!) Melania is also the ONLY person in this photo who knows that a picture is being taken. She's wearing Dior and, again, I like it but it's a bit too tight. Let your organs breathe!

Here's Kate in Alexander McQueen, ye olde Lover's Knot tiara (her favorite, clearly, as she generally wears it to these Tiara Events), [earrings that belonged to the Queen Mum](https://www.harpersbazaar.com/celebrity/latest/a27703320/kate-middleton-earrings-queen-mother-trump-state-banquet/?ref=go-fug-yourself.ghost.io), which are GORGEOUS, her new sash and royal orders, and a bracelet that was Diana's. She also with Treasury Secretary Steve Mnuchin who....I didn't even realize was attending this trip? How many people did we bring to this? (Is it normal for the Treasury Secretary to come on these things? I feel like it's not but also I would not recognize, like, the Dutch Treasury Secretary so I don't technically know). This dress is great to me -- it feels very Queen Elizabeth Holds a Banquet in 1955, but in a good way.

Camilla was paired with Woody Johnson, the US Ambassador, and I always like this GIANT tiara on her. She has the head and the hair to carry it off; she also looks here like she just remembered she forgot to turn off the margarita machine back at the house.

Everything seems like it's going fine at this dinner. I think a lot of people were concerned that this was going to be a huge fiasco, given that Trump is unpredictable, but while I am not a fan of his (as most regular readers know) I do think he respects the Queen/wants the Queen to like him, and you can tell in his interactions with her. (As far as she goes, the Queen has dined with a LOT of people in her time. She hosted a State Dinner for Putin! She was always going to nail this one.)
