This happened on Friday night, but Cannes stops for no TV show, so we got a bit behind. Anyway, I happened to end up on the sidewalk in front of the venue next to Laura Dern, and a) she is sincerely so fabulous, and b) it took all my self-control not to turn to her and say, "BUT HOW ARE YOU SO GREAT, LAURA DERN?!?" They also were offering her a ride the three and a half blocks to the venue, which she briefly appeared to consider turning down; as I hobbled around in badly chosen shoes, I almost also asked, "CAN YOU PLEASE SAVE ME FROM MYSELF LAURA DERN?!?" I behaved myself on both counts.
