Nichelle Lewis in Stella McCartney

We have definitely seen this Stella dress before, but I'm bad at figuring out on whom and when. My brain only has two peas working at once. It's not my favorite on its own merits, but for your Dorothy, celebrating The Wiz? Perfect. The Emerald City would be pleased.

Deborah Cox (Glinda), Wayne Brady (the Wiz)

I am pleased THIS Glinda leans away from pink. Wayne looks... kind of like an influencer.

Melody A. Betts (Aunt Em/Evillene) in Jovana Lewis

She posted that this is a tribute to the original Evillene, Mabel King. It's a WAY less busy version, and far more glamorous. It's in fact SO much better than I wouldn't have known it was a hat-tip without her context.

Avery Wilson (Scarecrow) in Quine Li

We just saw a Quine Li outfit on Lizzo. This is VERY Ursula the Sea Witch to me. That isn't an insult.

Collin Heyward (cast)

Perfect.

Matthew Sims Jr. (cast)

I LOVE his choice of shoe, but wish the top didn't look like a dog collar. And that the tie belt didn't hang down like green genitals.

Maile Masako Brady

She's presumably there to support her dad, taking on the green theme a little more directly than he did. She looks nice!

Maya Bowles (cast)

A very similar dress. I don't love that bandage/cat-scratch style in general, but if the mandate was green, you've gotta get what you can.

Kirk Cambridge-Del Pesche (in Orttu) and Amber Ruffin

He did the makeup, and I guess Amber contributed additional material to the book? He looks so majestic that it's a bummer that isn't one of The Wiz's costumes. And Amber always looks dreamy.

Sherri Shepherd

YES. If she is off to see the wizard, he will also be jealous of HER coat.

Tamron Hall

Tamron's caftan game is unmatched.

Ben Vereen

He positioned himself PERFECTLY so that it looks like his hat is glinting. What a dapper gent.

Michael Samarie George (cast)

Is it weird that the shoes are where this goes sideways for me? And possibly also for her ankle.

Hillary

Hilary is the Yellow Brick Road!

Stephanie Mills

Stephanie originated the role of Dorothy on Broadway, and played it again in the first revival (and should have done it in the movie, but apparently Diana Ross did some Machinations to get the role). It must have been a really poignant moment to pass the torch.

Phillip Johnson Richardson (the Tin Man)

Not ALL the cast wore green. Or even shirts.

Dustin Praylow (cast)

His creative use of skirting cannot distract me from his camel-toe shoes.

Kyle Ramar Freeman (the Lion)

I love the coat, but want to make a million edits to that bodice.

Peppermint

Miss Peppermint looks super, and now I want her to star in Maleficent: The Musical.

Common

No complaints.

LaChanze

... maybe a LIGHT complaint? I do applaud her shoe color. It's unexpected and I think it works.

Noah Galvin, Ben Platt

STILL a no on Ben's pants. Always and forever.

JaQuel Knight

I believe he is the choreographer. I applaud his use of animal print for a musical with a central character who is a lion. It's... you know, they're cousins.

Anna Wintour

Anna doesn't do themes even at her own themed fashion gala, so seeing her in a pattern is not a surprise. Maybe she's dressed as the Sleep Poppies.

Jordan Cooper

Funky jacket! I approve.

Judith Franklin (cast)

There are three distinct ideas here and I wish this dress had stuck with one of them. Preferably not the middle one.

Brandee Evans

This is like Oz by way of Mordor, or something. I'm not mad at it AT ALL.

The Wiz Premiered on Broadway With a LOT of Green

EMERALD, even, if you will.
