Megan Hilty is great. Megan Hilty is responsible for whatever transcendent moments "Smash" ever had. So I can't figure out why Megan Hilty showed up at the Tonys as Liberace's shower mildew. I wish we had another season of "Smash" coming so she could star in a musical about it, with songs like "Lysol You Standing There," "Midnight Drain to Georgia," "Tile Be Seeing You," "Grout (You Make Me Wanna),"and of course "Let Me Be Your Scourge," which gets a romantic reprise later called "Let Me Be Your Sponge."
It looked no better on stage. I'm sure she sounded great, but... honey, you don't need to go full bonkers everywhere else just so your voice shines. It does that on its own.
At first I thought these two were a new couple, but they're just starring together in something called "First Date," which from the synopsis sounds a little terrible, unfortunately. And her dress is much like Chuck Bartowski and his intersect: partly ordinary, and then BOOM, it knows kung-fu. The dress's split personality is less seamless though. It's NIFTY, I guess? But I'm not sure how flattering that drape is in the front...
... and then when you get it into the light on its own, the top part seems more confused than cool. Although I DO like the green lining poking through. Props to her for at least keeping it interesting in a way that doesn't evoke a dirty shower stall.
Something is off here, for me. As usual. It's not aggressively bad, and it's not deluding itself, but... is her hair pulling her face back weirdly? Does she need a lipstick? Is she maybe just a little too boring for her own good in it? I mean, that is some HUGE hair. I should be more stoked about it, shouldn't I?
Also, these two are still together. Which explains how they were able to get him for just one glance in the "Smash" finale. Which I just mistyped as "Slash" and I can't decide if a) that's a show that's EXACTLY the same except it stars Slash, or b) it's a murder version of "Smash," and therefore c) which one would be better.
