Emma didn't walk the red carpet with her boyfriend, but she was front and center with him in case he won his Tony (spoiler: It was Christian Borle, a.k.a. one of the few people on *Smash* I was always happy to see, and who made me wish he and Ivy and his boyfriend and Evil Derek would get their own spin-off). And she looked perfect: Lovely, yet understated. Classy, clean, and as if she didn't want to pull focus even though she knew everyone would be looking.

Just in case you were concerned that the dress devolved into breeches made of scrunchies, or something, here is the snippet we got to see (she is celebrating Mike Nichols winning for his direction of *Death of a Salesman*). Like I said: tasteful, understated, smartly not using this opportunity to make the night about herself, nor declare herself any kind of trailblazer despite MTV deciding to christen her one about a decade before it's normal to do so. That was not her fault, but MAN, premature, much? I love her but let's give her another couple years before we burden her with the mantle of being some kind of legend.

Can we also discuss that Emma was in a LEATHER SHIRT, in the heat of summer, and still looks as fresh and cheerful and unfrizzy as if she were in a salon chair. I can't decide if it's great or DEVASTATING AND TERRIBLE that she makes it look so easy.
