Right after the French Open announced it would ban Serena's catsuits -- which she wears, she said, because they help with the circulatory issue that complicated her childbirth -- she came out here in Nike tutus, and I LOVE THEM. It turns on its ear the idea that things traditionally associated with being "girly" can't also be hella f'ing powerful. She is the best, and not for nothing, I also never get tired of her "Mama said KNOCK YOU OUT" ad. If and when I qualify for the black-belt cycle at my taekwondo dojeng, I have to choreograph a musical form of my own, and I kind of want to do it just to that spoken-word segment played on a loop. (I won't, because it really is too short, but it's TEMPTING.)

The tutu also comes in black. I don't LOVE the one brown strap; I wish that had been... oh, I'd even settle for orange, but I suppose when you're Serena you get a color scheme that's not what you're peddling to everyone else. But that's a very small nit to pick. GO SERENA PLEASE WIN.

Venus's outfits are all super bright and cheery. I really like this one, although the string straps around her neck look like they shouldn't be able to hold up to her level of power.

We saw this shirt on quite a few poeple, and it's -- yes -- also something I like. Apparently my kid's tastes don't run terribly counter to my own. Nick also gives great tennis faces; this one was reacting in astonishment to Federer hitting a winner around the net post. We ALL made that face, Nick.

... the white shorts were a problem when they started really dripping with sweat. I didn't see whether Nishikori had this much of a problem, but while I was watching Cilic play in these his shorts were basically see-through. It's not rendering in the photos, but in motion it was pronounced.I knew a LOT about his panty line.

It was SO MISERABLE down there for these poor players. More men quit than women, and before you blame that on playing best-of-five rather than three, many of them bowed out in the second set. GO LADIES.
