Lupita Nyong'o in Miu Miu

I don't love the bra straps on the top of that, necessarily, but I do at least enjoy the vacation vibe of the whole thing (it's based on a resort collection, so that makes sense). It all screams, "I JUST WON AN OSCAR AND I AM TOTALLY GOING ON VACATION SOMEPLACE SUPER TROPICAL AND SEXY, WITH GIGANTIC COCKTAILS AND MAYBE JARED LETO!!!!!" Seriously, if that rumor is false, they should consider making it true. Just for fun. OUR fun. THINK OF US.

Lupita Nyong'o

A closer look at her beads. And her face. She is SO HAPPY. I saw her briefly on Live With Kelly and Michael (does that dude do anything on that show at all besides nod?), and she was jokingly only letting Strahan touch it for three seconds before she took it back because she never wanted to let go of it. So I guess "touch people's Oscars" is on his list of duties.

Kate Hudson in Zuhair Murad

If she was going to go Zuhair Murad, I wish she'd worn this animal print one(going back to that slideshow made me SO SAD for all the gorgeous things that should have been worn and were not), instead of something in the Old Yellowed Lace vein. Also, why couldn't she have kept on the white Versace? This ALSO has an endangered train, and yet apparently she is fine with it. Maybe she didn't want food spills? But some people are not afraid of that, such as...

Amy Adams in Carolina Herrera

... Amy Adams, who maybe changed because this is less constructing than the blue number. Although is it, really? It's still FITTED, so... maybe it's all in the material. She looks great, but I'm glad she wore the other one to the ceremony, and I wish she'd packed a red lipstick for this. White washes her out.

Anna Kendrick in Versace

She CLEARLY should have worn this one and not that messy, drunken J.Mendel. It MAY have needed different hair? But it's still much better, and I love the way the skirt makes me think of some kind of Ancient Egyptian Tetris.

Penelope Cruz

This is an H&M dress from its Conscious Collection of sustainable fashion, and I think it's very telling that she did not wear it on the red carpet, because to me, it LOOKS like H&M.

Chrissy Teigen

Obviously SHE had to change -- that train was massive -- and this is a fine after-party substitute. I can appreciate it while I look at it, and I will probably forget it in fifteen minutes.

Julie Delpy

I don't have a designer credit on this, but I actually love it and wish she'd worn it to the awards themselves. With a bracelet, of course.

Jenna Dewan-Tatum

We don't know the designer on this, either. I think it's the really tan netting that's getting me -- it looks like a badly matched pair of Hanes from Macy's.

Vanity Fair Oscar Party Fugs and Fabs: Yet More People Who Changed
If you're really that worried about your dress getting ruined -- like, if it's MASSIVE -- then changing makes lots of sense. But half the time, it ends up looking like indecision. That said, let's see if we think some of these were secret upgrades. Lupita Nyong'o kept it in the family but switched to Miu Miu, Amy Adams went with Carolina Herrera, Anna Kendrick picked a Versace, Julie Delpy wore a mystery gown.... [Photos: Getty, Fame/Flynet]
