Edgar Ramirez as Versace

This shot is intriguing to me. It's almost Papal, as if he's emerged from his balcony to bless a congregation. I found this photo of Gianni and Donatella that's supposedly from shortly before he died, and Edgar is a decent likeness.

This almost makes the robe look like pink leather. I hope it IS.

Penelope Cruz

This is perhaps the most flattering portrayal Donatella could've hoped to receive. My initial instinct is that her hair isn't crispy enough and she's not wearing enough bronzer, but then I hit up Google, and Donatella's exact shade of orange seems to change a bit around this time period. I still maintain that this is a very gentle bit of styling.

As is this. Honestly, do we think Lady Gaga turned down this part? Visually she's a better match, if you slathered on the tanner. I do realize she's filming A Star Is Born, and for all we know she's not a great actress outside the high camp world of American Horror Story, but she's also close to Donatella. Or at least has been in the past. So maybe it's something she wouldn't have been prepared to do anyway. I'm extremely curious whether Penelope can hit this particular mark.

Aw. Fictional Gianni Versace is clearly a Fug National. SNIFFLE. 

I believe this is the costume in which Ramirez's Versace is shot. He died in his shower slides. It's somehow even sadder that way.

The House

They're shooting AT the actual house, too, which has to be a bit eerie. But if you can't get into character there, then there's no hope for you.

Darren Criss

I'm also looking forward to how they handle Andrew Cunanan, because if my memory serves, no one really knows why he did it (he killed himself eight days later). Versace was his fifth victim, and a theory that he was driven mad by a positive HIV diagnosis was disproven by the autopsy. So I guess Ryan Murphy's crew gets to do a little extrapolating here, more so than with the OJ Simpson tale.

Darren DOES have marvelous pins, which were on display when he recently revived his Hedwig performance in L.A. He was quite good, though I think John Cameron Mitchell's body type would have been more effective at the end. When Darren Criss strips down and sings, it feels a tiny bit too much like Playgirl. Speaking of, we are about to see A LOT OF HIM. Tread carefully if you are worried about who's nearby.

I mean, I'm GUESSING this is the part where Ryan Murphy is taking a LOT of creative Cunanan license.
