The truth is that this gown looks ridiculously good on Helen Mirren regardless of why she picked it.

I am half her age and I can't wear things this well. Helen Mirren is giving me so much hope. Those hopes will of course be cruelly dashed when, in like five years, I go past the point of no return and this future becomes impossible for me. But for now... Helen Mirren is a human Pinterest board called "Goals."

But she wore the dress specifically as a tribute to Prince.

She also drew on her own Love Symbol tattoo in the bathroom that morning. I had no idea you cared so much, Dame Helen. It's quite sweet. I just hope Prince knew. I think he would have wanted to know that the High Priestess of Rad found him inspirational.
