The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and Prince George arrive at Wellington Airport

I actually love this. On Twitter, Fug National @emm_a noted that she looks like "a sexy bellhop, but in a good way," and I kind of agree. The hat is VERY retro-fabulous in a way that I embrace. It was INSANELY windy when they got off the plane -- YES I WATCHED THE LIVEFEED LEAVE ME ALONE -- and there was a moment where her hair was blowing all over the place and her skirt and coat too and I thought, "you know this woman is thinking, 'how can I hold my skirt down and this baby and walk down the stairs at the same time?'" She managed. Credits and info, per the Express: "Catherine Walker coat, Gina Foster hat, and a diamond and platinum silver fern brooch, depicting the New Zealand national symbol, which was given to the Queen by the women of Auckland during her Commonwealth tour of 1953-54. French-born Ms Walker, who died aged 65 in 2010, was Princess Diana's favourite fashion designer."

In fact, I feel like the subtext here is, "please don't fall down the stairs, okay? Can I carry...no. Okay." The good news is that everyone was fine.

She does love those shoes. I will note that I think the length of this coat is lovely in motion but I am not crazy about it when she's standing still. She looks great, and I get it, but I wish it were a LITTLE shorter and it'll be interesting to see if this truly is the new world order.

I love the hat. It feels very Queen-Approved, but in a way I think she can carry off. Also, George is totally thinking about how he would like to be crawling somewhere now. Like maybe over there. In that fascinating looking puddle.

I could not find a photo where you could see this as well as you could on film, but his sweater APPEARED to have wee Queens Guards stitched on it. It goes without saying, I hope, that I want to squeeze his cheeks and I cannot resist a collar on a baby, don't ask me why. He really is a little peach. Am I crazy to say that I think he sort of looks like The Queen?

Additionally, this is the first pic where I've really noticed her new ring. ALLEGEDLY William got her a diamond eternity band at some point (Valentine's Day?) but her engagement ring is so ginormo that we can't usually see it in there (nor her wedding band, honestly), but there it is. (I don't even know why I used the "ALLEGEDLY" in there; who else is buying her a diamond eternity band that she'd wear on her ring finger, Camilla? Although that would be thoughtful of her.)

Well Played: Kate, William and George's Royal Tour of Australia and New Zealand, Day One

AND WE'RE OFF. Nine News in Australia had footage of the three of them changing planes in Sydney and it's kind of amusing for a couple of reasons: first, it's footage of people getting out of a car, greeting some folks, and then getting on a plane, which is simply not that dramatic unless you're watching Scandal. Second, George is waving his arms and legs all over the place throughout the entire process. Third, and almost best, the news anchors are getting all excited to see the plane change and a bus pulls up and parks right in front of their camera and the whole studio groaned and yelled at the camera person to move. I don't know why it tickled me, but it really did did. ANYWAY. At the plane change, Kate was wearing her Max Mara gray wrap we last saw last February (when she was pregnant), while William and George were both in blue and looked like a dude in a suit and a baby, respectively. BUT ON TO THE MAIN EVENT. Obviously, they changed to deplane here in Wellington, New Zealand, and changing brought with it a pillbox hat! George in a sweater with wee Queen's Guards on it (I think; the video of them deplaning seems to support this theory)! And William in a suit still! Yes, I DID watch them get off the plane on the livefeed and here is what I can tell you about Prince George and the next 19 days: HE WANTS TO GET DOWN. NOW. PLEASE. DOWN. ALL THE TIME DOWN. He's also really very cute and seems awfully chipper for someone who's been traveling for 24 hours. Is it wrong that I might want a sweater with the Queen's Guard on it myself? [Photos: Getty, Splash]
