This is at the war memorial in Seymour Square in Blenheim, New Zealand, where they did some wreath-laying and some hand-shaking, including meeting with veterans. Wills is wearing medals that his grandma gave him at her big Jubilee; they are both wearing what the internet tells me is the WW100 pin, which marks that it's 100 years since the start of World War I, which is also what this event is commemorating. (Somewhere, Lady Edith Crawley sighs, "those were the days. I was so young. So useful! [She is given the gift of eternal life in season seven of Downton, which is how she's alive to reflect upon this milestone.])
This is also the first ponytail of the trip. I always like a change (although her hair down is so good), and this is very useful for those of us who care about her earrings; I do think she might be wearing too much blush, but I've decided this is because the bathroom wherever they're staying has just terrible lighting. We really have all been there.
Bonus points to Fug National @lesliepedia for pointing out that Sophie Wessex wore a similar version of this coat in white (with the flaps of the pockets tucked up, which apparently is also McQueen approved.)
I have no legit reason to have included this other than I thought it was cute. I regret nothing.
After the wreathing, they split up to work the crowd and the livestream (YES I WATCHED IT IT'S RESEARCH) followed Kate -- William seriously could have been arm-wrestling a vet on the other side of the event, and I have decided that he was, as I didn't see him again until he popped back at the end of the event to pat Kate on the back (literally [affectionately, not, like, "good game, Middleton!"]) and get back into the car -- so I saw this go down and it was very cute. Kate had this little girl get up and twirl for her. It was adorable. She really is so natural and great at these public appearances.
These tiara-wearing girls were obviously having THE BEST TIME. Also, you can see the back of her coat here; it's pleated and AWESOME. I kind of wish it were half an inch shorter, but "I wish it were half-an-inch shorter" is going to be to Kate what "she needs a bracelet" is to everyone else on this website.
This child appears to be telling him about her loose tooth. As you do!
This is the best look at the back of the coat that I have at the moment. If I get another one, I will pop it in here for you.
TIME FOR HAND-WRITING ANALYSIS. (In other news, I covet that Smythson stationary so hard. Every year I almost buy one of their day planners [I use a paper day planner] and then I remember how much they cost. But so pretty.)
After the wreath-laying, they went off to meet Peter "Lord of the Rings" Jackson and view an exhibition of vintage aircraft, where William climbed in a plane and Kate presumably told him not to try to fly off anywhere. They still have two weeks to go! (Actually, there is video of this and it's very charming; at one point he tries to get her to climb in with him.)
