When I read that Keira Knightley was going to play the titular role in *Anna Karenina*, I must admit I rolled my eyes and said something like, "because there is no one else in the world who can play the lead role in a period drama," and then said something else like, "I just hope UNCLENCHES HER JAW," and then I ate a cookie and forgot about it. But, as per usual, I have come around. For one thing, K-Squared is traditionally excellent in Joe Wright movies -- she even won me over in his *Pride and Prejudice* adaption, and the Colin Firth version is OBVIOUSLY my spirit animal. For another, [the trailer makes the movie look like it will either fantastically sweeping or sweepingly ridiculous](https://trailers.apple.com/trailers/focus%5Ffeatures/annakarenina/?ref=go-fug-yourself.ghost.io) (it is *not* subtle) and honestly, I can work in either of those directions. She and Jude actually look rather restrained in it, especially compared to Aaron Taylor-Johnson's mustache, and she also looks beautiful. As she does here.
