I have a bird phobia -- this will come into play later; consider this the gun introduced in Act One of this post -- and yet I love this and would wear it. Maybe I AM wearing it right now. You don't know my life.

Whenever I see hats like these, I imagine the wearer having spent hours and hours in front of The Only Way is Essex hot glue gunning until their little fingers fall off.

I feel quite certain that if this woman and I found ourselves drinking Pimms together, at one point I would turn to her and ask, "but how do you ride in the car with that on your head???"

These are slightly more manageable, but also whimsical!

I like that this looks like a lovely floaty meringue.

This one falls under the category of Could Accidentally Poke Someone In the Face Rather Easily.

I was VERY confused by these two until kindly commenters told me Non Union Jack was wearing the flag of the EU (which I had never seen before somehow?). I apologize for deeming you previously confusing, ladies! NOW I KNOW YOU ARE TOPICAL.

Her hat is a delight, but so is the hat of the gentleman in the background. I applaud his thematic top hat.

It's worth noting that this year's Ascot also brought us a great deal of fantastic red lipstick.

These hats fall into the categories of Glorious Crumples and Ginormous Flowers.

Ginormous Flower Part II: The Ginormoing.

This may be my favorite of the Ginormous Flowers. The variation in color is lovely.

This falls under the auspices of Dive-Bombed By Something Terrifically Chic.

I kind of love the mesh one.

I pulled this one because it's fantastically understated and I love it, and wish Kate would dress like this.

LITERALLY GOING TO HAVE NIGHTMARES ABOUT THESE REALISTIC BIRD WINGS LIKE A BIRD IS BURIED IN YOUR SKULL SO THANKS ANNA FRIEL.

This is more like a FOREHEAD PIECE than a hat...

Adhering to general GFY guidelines about the importance of sunglasses in an overall look.

The one on the left is a very subtle shout-out to all our friends in Slytherin.

I think this is unusual and lovely.

I like that this one could also possibly catch rain water, making it environmentally advanced and multi-use.

This is Rachel Trevor-Morgan, who is herself a milliner who makes LOVELY hats, including several that we've seen on the Duchess of Cambridge, so it's only appropriate that she's wearing a fantastic hat herself. I think she looks fab.

A salute to the brave and noble C3P0, surely.

These ladies have matching horse figurines!

I appreciate how closely her frock matches the step-and-repeat, making all kind of "I'm Just a Floating Head!" pranks that much easier. (Bonus points for coordinating her great lipstick with the purple notes in the feathers.)

This hat looks comfy, if you needed to take it off at any point and nap on it.

I decided these two girls were REALLY into Code Name Verity. (I support theming hats to books at all times.)

Well, if your hat looks like a cake...why resist?
