This was a promising start to the year. Elizabeth turns to Elie Saab rather a lot when she wants a big elegant statement, and for obvious reasons. She knows what she's doing, and they know to help her get it done.

This is ALSO good. I think that's a sheer patch on her hip, wrapping around, but the construction of it is so pretty that it all holds together. Even with the pizza.

And this is... a waste of a good color, if I'm being honest. Which I am.

I would basically weep with joy if I woke up and that had magicked itself into my closet. It's SO GOOD. Exactly the kind of day dress that makes you want to be a more glamorous person on the regular.

Those pants are troubling. The fabric is odd, too, but as a leathery ode to autumn I could live with it if the bottom were a pencil skirt.

What I wish you could see better is that the heels of her shoes are POLKA DOTS. I'm in.

Pretty. Needs a bracelet. But I get why she'd go with an understated speed bump in between what came before and what we're about to get. It's almost like a palate cleanser.

This is like a blanket, a pillowcase, and leftover bits of old trench coats. I'm impressed it has some semblance of a cool shape, and in fact, I think I liked this oddball outfit better than most of Fug Nation did.

So... someone raked the leaves, but only right over her knees? WELL. Jimmy isn't getting his full allowance THIS week.

I don't have a credit on this one. It looks like it's made of Ace bandages. GOOD ones -- like, Lacoste for Target -- but still.

This one is a little harsh for me. Another one where a good color is let down by the cut and/or styling.

So it's... a halter scarf?

I wish her lips were what matched the dress, instead of the shoes.

This is another one that I would love to slide right into my wardrobe. Where it would sit, unused, because my life is very small.

This is DEFINITELY adjacent to Fraulein Maria making play clothes out of drapery, but damned if it doesn't work on her.

Do I like the dress, or just the poster behind her? Either way: I enjoy that she can veer from classic and almost stuffy, to sleek and dramatic, to giant gowns, to big and bright. Like so...

So cheerful.

This is SO GOOD. From top to toe, it's perfect.

She was on this jury with Diane Kruger, and I feel like she turned to her stylist and said, "I WILL NOT BE OUTDONE."

This is just icy elegance.

And the back is beautiful, too. Venice and Cannes and whatnot are the festivals where people really GET that a dress is a 360-degree experience.

It ... could be worse, given its parents. But the beige shoes are just a total buzzkill here. They have no place.

I stand by the assessment that this could use adjusting. We discussed everything from eliminating the black patch on the skirt, to making the skirt ALL black, to making the BODICE black and keeping the skirt entirely patterned. I also would nix the sweetheart neckline, personally. But WHAT a statement gown nonetheless. I don't exactly like it, but I'm pretty happy staring at it.

This is a bit of a cousin to the black one she wore earlier -- shiny fabric, slightly loose. It's nice, but there are versions of this I like better, like the two-tone one Amy Adams wore to the Globes a while back.

Oh, just a little frosted something-something for an after party. No big.

Perfection. Even if it IS a wee see-through. It's just so dramatic and romantic and sweeping.

She is almost pulling off the concept. I think the skirt being two different fabrics -- one in back, one in front -- partially torpedoes this. Well, that, and the fact that Alicia Keys wore versions of this ten years ago and it was insane.

As ever, I want to edit the black band right the hell out of this. But she has never met anything bright she was afraid to try.

I love this. It's like the happiest of holidays.

I said before, and I stand by it, that this is awfully good for something that's essentially tumors.

I MOSTLY like this. I've never been hot on that '80s country neckline, and my mind isn't changed here, but the pattern certainly works. And the beauty of Elizabeth Banks is that even when I'm scratching my head, there's something to like. She might be an heir apparent to Cate Blanchett's carte blanchett.
