Reports claim that Kate told the Tans that she was delighted to be out of the house and let me tell you, Kate, NO KIDDING. My imaginary coat closet was getting boring. (Also, it had been too long since we'd seen any sort of event with carriages/people riding horses in ceremonial top hattery.)
Someone's feeling better. (A very good friend of mine had hyperemesis gravidarum with both of her children -- she was miserable -- and she told me that once it let up a bit, she basically wanted to kiss every single person she saw, it was such a relief. That did NOT happen here today. If you're keeping track, so far: no one was stuck in a giant plant, and no one was kissed. THAT WE SAW.)
If this hat looks familiar, it's because she wore in on Easter in Australia. (If I need to do more to entice you to click that link, it's the same post where George Eats a Zoo.)
"What are we all looking at, Kate?"
"I have no idea."
I just really wanted you all to be able to see her ponytail from, like, all angles.
She's just thirteen weeks pregnant (ish) and you really can barely tell, but I suspect this coat is also cut for maximum concealment. I would be a liar if I said I wasn't pretty excited for the Parade of Coats we have coming our way this winter. I also JUST realized that the shadow-y, be-hatted fuzzy person facing them is The Queen, so I can only imagine that Kate is all, "WILLIAM STOP TALKING TO ME YOUR GRANDMOTHER IS STARING AT US."
In fairness, Gran looks VERY cheery today, with a patterned dress AND a pink flower.
This coat also appears to have pockets.
This photo is ostensibly so you can eyeball the back of her coat.
"Do I really have to get into this thing? I've been barfing for weeks on end....well, don't say I didn't warn you." (They took the carriages from Horse Guards down to Buckingham Palace as part of the State Visit Ceremonial Hoo-Hah. As part of MY day today, I plan to take a carriage of a sorts from my own palace out to buy cookies, which is much the same.)
I cannot see a photo like this without thinking of this closing tag from Friends. After all, nothing says "ceremonial pomp and circumstance" like one Mr. Joey Tribbiani.
"Kate, are you completely sure we can't just use the carriage around town? It's extremely glamorous."
"I am sure."
