## The Duke and Duchess Of Cambridge Visit India and Bhutan - Day 5

This isn't technically in chronological order, but, come on. Like I wasn't going to start with this. It's amazing. Kate Middleton IS Katniss Everdeen in *The Hunger Games: Royal Vacation*.

So. I love this. The cape is Paul & Joe and [it's both expensive and sold out and I want it](https://www.net-a-porter.com/us/en/product/655447/paul%5F%5F%5Fjoe/embroidered-wool-cape?cm%5Fmmc=LinkshareUS-%5F-QFGLnEolOWg-%5F-Custom-%5F-LinkBuilder&siteID=QFGLnEolOWg-YAMa1eYPy6Ysd10U9%5F2UUA&ref=go-fug-yourself.ghost.io). It would be SO CUTE with jeans. The skirt is not an actual kira, but -- as I learned at What Kate Wore -- a take on the kira. ([There's more info here,](https://www.bhutan.com/culture/traditional-dress?ref=go-fug-yourself.ghost.io) but, if I'm reading it correctly, a kira is actually a dress.) The fabric -- which is GORGEOUS -- was woven in Bhutan, but the maker is Ye Olde "Private Dressmaker" of Yore who Kate uses sometimes, and who I've decided is actually William, because he finds sewing to be a meditative art.

If this coat on Kate looks familiar to you, it's because [we saw it in 2012 in Scotland, though she's added a belt](https://www.gofugyourself.com/acceptably-played-kate-middleton-07-2012/the-duke-of-cambridge-is-installed-as-a-knight-of-the-thistle-4?ref=go-fug-yourself.ghost.io). I don't LOVE it, but I like it much better WITH the belt.

Here, they were met at the airport -- after apparently a harrowing landing (not unusually harrowing; from what I understand, all landings in Bhutan are harrowing because they involve a 90 degree turn) -- by Princess Chimi Yangzom Wanchuck and Prince Dasho Ugyen Jigme Wangchuck. Let us turn to Wikipedia for more! Apparently, Princess Chimi is the King's half-sister and she only has a BA from Wellesley and a master's from Columbia so THAT'S not impressive or anything. Her husband is ALSO getting his master's at Columbia. Dashing *and* smart.

Then Kate changed and they met the King and Queen, and there was much ceremony and it was all quite beautiful -- much as King Jigme and Queen Jetsun are. They are just...extremely good-looking people.

I just spent A LOT of time trying to figure out if this is a mural or a GIANT GIANT piece of fabric and I think it's the latter, and I marvel at the logistics of such a huge piece of cloth. Anyway, they're currently at Tashichho Dzong, which is -- per the noted architectural historian Wikipedia -- "a Buddhist monastery and fortress on the northern edge of the city of Thimpu in Bhutan, on the western bank of the Wang Chu. It has traditionally been the seat of the Druk Desi (or "Dharma Raja"), the head of Bhutan's civil government, an office which has been combined with the kingship since the creation of the monarchy in 1907, and summer capital of the country."

You know how they say that a stopped clock is right twice a day? I actually think those beige shoes were the right call here.

Kate and Queen Jetsun Pema actually might have a fair amount to talk about. First, obviously, the care and upkeep of their respective hair, and how they've both decided neither of them have bangs anymore. The Queen went to college in London, so they can also talk about...you know, Selfridges or whatever. She also had a baby in January -- whose name they are announcing on the 16th -- so they can talk about, I don't know, sleep training. Also, apparently Jetsun Pema is a huge basketball fan (and player), so my guess is that they're ACTUALLY talking about Steph Curry.

I feel like I want to read a book about the adventures of these two women.

SPEAKING OF ADVENTURES, we also got what I heard was to be an archery DEMONSTRATION, but apparently there was audience participation.

Kate looks HILARIOUSLY doubtful here, and very much like she's trying not to laugh at him. Oh, William. If it were 1567, your form would have been -- IDEALLY -- much better than this.

"HAHAHAHAHAHAHAH whoops! Isn't that the reporter from the *Daily Mail*? SO sorry, didn't mean to hit you, shall we call it even?"

Kate also got to throw darts, at which I am sure she is very accomplished due to all the time she's surely spent in her neighborhood pub, doing exactly this.

I desperately need the details on this mug and I am not being sarcastic. It's a GORGEOUS MUG.

Everything about this pleases me. I LOVE this dress. It's so quirky and weird and patterned, and the shoes are open-toed AGAIN and the earrings are good and we're just TOTALLY pretending the bangs never happened. (Wills looks good too. Good on you, Wills.)

AND it's a bit leggy. Those shoes might actually be...good? Is that possible? IT'S A BHUTANESE MIRACLE.

[Wills and Kate’s Royal Tour of India and Bhutan, Day Five: Emilia Wickstead, Paul & Joe, Tory BurchAnd we've arrived in Bhutan! It looks amazing. This is the trip of a lifetime (all of the royals reporters I follow on Twitter are tweeting with a barely restrained undercurrent of "holy shit I can't believe I'm here," as would I in their shoes). If any of you have been in Bhutan, please tell us all about it. It's only been open to tourists since 1974, and, if I understand correctly, you must go with a previously approved tour group. Other than the inherent interest in this location, today's events are very interesting (as ever, our friends at What Kate Wore have excellent coverage of some of the pertinent details), and involve both archery and a cape. TWO OF MY FAVORITE THINGS. Also involved: a quasi-kira for Kate (which is a traditional Bhutanese garment), and a mug that I covet mightily. PS: As a general note, recently comments about this tour have gotten somewhat contentious. That happens with Kate posts occasionally, for whatever reason; it's part of the cycle of life, and in the grand scheme of things, it's no big deal. People are invested and interested in the subject, and overall, that is a good thing. However, I'd just like to reiterate that while disagreement -- with me, or your fellow posters -- is welcome (wouldn't it be boring if we all agreed?), please disagree civilly, and give your fellow posters the benefit of the doubt that they're trying to do that as well. I think these royal tours are fascinating and fun and we're all here because we enjoy something about them (presumably), so let's keep it congenial.Thank you! \[Photos: Chris Jackson/Getty images, Getty Images\]![](https://storage.ghost.io/c/bf/b9/bfb99790-924d-4e41-a7e6-5e3c6e04fe57/content/images/static-gofugyourself-com/uploads/2016/04/gettyimages-521112554.jpg)](https://go-fug-yourself.ghost.io/wills-and-kates-royal-tour-of-india-and-bhutan-day-five-emilia-wickstead-paul-joe-tory-burch-04-2016/)
